Problem during sterilization

I just made up eight PF pints. During boiling water sterilization, five of them got a large amount of water in them making the BRF look like white mush inside. The other three got only a very small amount of water seepage into them, about what I expected so Im not worried about them. My question is this: should I refill the five jars with fresh substrate and resterilize this time doing a better job with the tin foil, or should I not worry about it as the water won't impede growth very much and It's still sterile, and go ahead and innoculate them. I only have 9 cc's of mycelium syringe so I don't want to waste it.

Yes refill the the five and do it again. I think you are using too much water. Put the jars in the pot, and add water about 2-3 inches up the jars. Low boil for 60-90 minutes.

This happened to me too--the jars that got water in them never colonized and they grew some horrible smelling contam on top of the vermiculite layer. So you should do them again.

ya man and you said the other 3 didnt get much ,just about what you expected.Well You shouldnt expect any water to get in.None at all,you need to put foil over the mouth of your jar and fasten it with a rubberband or something ,then like simplemachine said lower the water lever in the pot.if you do those 2 things,nowater should get in.
And extra water definatly slows growth,if to wet it might not grow at all.Thats why you use a recipe for the substrate,anything extra is not good.
