cactaceae problem - falling spines
    #2263607 - 01/22/04 06:31 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

a few specimens of my collection ranging from the genus pilosocereus to trichocereus have shown this strange habit this year. they're not particularly old plants around 5 years old, once i noticed one of them had its central spines weak to the touch, falling easily (usually they stay tenaciously attached to the plant).
in my pilosocereus azureus i have also noticed spots on its glausecense (spots of non-glausecense, but noted only in this particular specimen), what could that be?
mites? bacterias? micro aliens? kick your guesses!
thanks already.

Every year around winter I lose cacti to some creepy rotting  from the inside out. This last time it happened I think the slugs contaminated it when they gnawed the merristem off :frown:

for educational purposes:
i have cut back all watering after the cutting and the spines are stiff again.
it seems i've been slightly overwatering my cacti...
a little more water and death.
