Hmm... never really thought about it like that...

Y'know? I think that's actually a really good idea! Take the emphasis off of "reaching Level 5" (god, how many newbies has that foolish-ass goal destroyed over the years?) and focus on getting a qualitatively profound psychedelic experience! We're the bloody Shroomery here people, not some guys egging each other on to eat 10g and see shit!

This also ties into the other thread bemoaning the members who advise takinig 3 bottles of cough syrup for a DXM trip.

Now that Milkman has talked me around to getting rid of trip levels, I think we should plaster the announcement on the front page. I'll leave that one for the mods to sort out though...

Precisely Milkman!

The psychedelic experience can only be truly shared by a psychedelic process - namely, art. Whether it be the weaving of the story in text, sound based creations, through visual means, sculpture etc, humans have been attempting to share the experience as long as we've been having it. T Mckenna taught us the way to propogate the psychedelic experience is by being more psychedelic in our daily lives. Create create create.
Reducing it down to quantified components only serves juvenile boasting, which is rife around here!

Not for us but the level system is a good way of describing the effects to newbies methinks... It shows that the mushroom experience is extremely dose dependent and that taking 5g will put you in another place entirely than taking 2g. Think about it. Most other drugs don't need a level system because the effects remain the same but just get stronger with increased dose.

Like you wouldn't need a MJ level system, because you smoke and get high, and then if you smoke more you get more high, simple stuff. Drink, you get drunk, drink more, you get more of that drunkenness.

Shroom levels indicate to beginners that it is a completely different experience and therefore, loosely speaking of course, an almost different drug altogether, at varied amounts.

I like the milkman system but I think maybe the system we have currently, although inadequate, serves a purpose that the new one doesn't improve on, and that is highlight the nature of the drug.

Hehe on a side note it reminds me of one time I was tripping balls sitting at the computer, and my psychedelically ignorant buddy came in and asked, "Are you shroomed yet?". Almost burst out laughing, I was just like "uhhhh, I guess so...". Reality as we know it is falling apart and he wants to know if I'm 'shroomed' yet. Good stuff, lol.

Yes, for explaining the effects to newbie trippers (again dealing with toxicology), the scale is good, and doesn't need to be too complicated. But the intensity of an individual experience can be expressed with words, so there is no need for a scale in that case.

I think there could be statistical benefits if using this more complex system.

You could collect trip reports into a database and calculate statistical graphs of how different strains produce different effects. (more visuals/more body/..)

Trip report database.. hmm we just need to standardize/wrap up this new level system.

This new system is way too complicated for a starting user. I like the good old trip report, just tell what happened. No need to wrap it up in silly level numbers and qualifications. Besides, the simpler the better, IMO.

And, IMO, I am never at a constant level or whatever. I am constantly shifting through many different effects at many different times during my experience. That is why I like trip reports, instead of a level system.

I like level 7 for physical, mental, and level 5 for visuals, mabey level 6 for visuals.
