spawn bags
    #2264118 - 01/22/04 11:08 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

sorry for the noob question.

I was able to get a bunch of bags to try spawn bag tek. i just have a few questions.

1) What are the benefits of spawn bags when you can just use rye and shake it to colonize faster?

2) I don't have easy access to poo or straw...can i use grain and verm?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

peace

1. the only benefit I see to growing grain in a spawnbag is that it holds more substrate.

2. Use straight grain if you have a pc. no verm needed. (edit) if the verm is a casing as fee says this is all good, but there is no reason to mix it with your whole grain like pf tek, thats what I thought you meant...

The moisture content at mix-up should be the same in bags as in jars. If properly loaded in the cooker no water will come in the bag.

I am working on some teks, until I am finished you can look at this rye grass seed in bag tek.

here is some other benefits of bags. and a lengthy debate comparing them to jars.

--------------------
"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Bags rock, they have many advantages!

Mycobag, I like the way your rye tek is 100% in the bag.
I've been soaking and draining wbs before bagging and want to eliminate the messy steps. Would you use the same amount of water for wbs?
