Nah bro, they melt for all of us. This tek's a waste of time.
However, on a serious note, if you happen to have two of those racks, I sometimes like to use both so that the plates aren't bobbing around in any water. They're very buoyant. An alternative is making a few out of 4 oz glass jars and using those for your bottom layer, and then stacking the plastic ones on top of those.

If I only have one rack I raise it with some metal rings or foil or glass jars to keep the pasty plates out of the water. But enough water is used to complete the pc cycle.

I especially keep the pasty plates level so if they cool in the pc. The agar stays somewhat of a level surface.

That's a good one too, since I switched to plastic all my metal lids and rings sit around being useless.

Wow, you guys use a lot of water for a 30 minute run or whatever he suggests. I never have water in contact with my plates.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Hey I thought I would let you guys know.... the mini rounds were on sale at Target this evening- pack of 8 for $2.17 +Tax. I bought the last 2 packs. If anyone needs some, I am open for trades! Also check out your local Target. I would figure all have a similar sale.

I always feel like I'm over-filling the PC.
I've gotten lower and lower over the years but I think everyone is kind of afraid of falling asleep and running the PC dry.

I've fallen asleep a few times when pulling an all night grain cooking session but I always have an alarm set whether I'm awake or not.

What's the procedure for inoculating a Glad mini agar with a spore syringe?

Gently pop the lid open, put a drop of liquid in there, secure it back down. Or I guess you could drill a hole and put a SHIP. I don't trust SHIPs since they can have spores sitting on the surface of them that you can't get off, seems too likely for your needle to catch whatever's hanging out there. That's just my thoughts though.
The first method is pretty easy since the needle is so skinny, you barely have to open it at all, and if it's in an SAB, you can expect any contams that grow came from the syringe itself.

How about poking the needle through the spore tape into the hole? and putting a new piece of tape over the hole that has been prepped inside the SAB?

If your micropore tape has ever been exposed to open air, contams could fall off it.
Also, the outside of the round is never fully sterile. Open-Air contams stick to the outsides of everything. Pushing a needle through it could push outside contamination through the tape and onto the agar.
If you think alcohol or sanitizer of any kind on the tape will make a difference then think again.

Same deal. That tape isn't as clean as the still air you would otherwise have to touch the needle to. If you can be 100% sure the tape is sterile, go for it. But then you have the make sure the next piece you put over top is clean enough not to drop a spore or two in through the first hole you made. Really better off not messing with the filter material, that's your insurance.
You pretty much have to get good at opening these things in a SAB so you might as well start the practice now.

Lysol and air filters are no substitute for smooth hands and good preperation.
Rehearsal before sterile procedures is important too.

Good point. If you have any blank syringes, try practicing with one in the SAB and an empty pasty plate. Just get familiar with popping the lid as slowly and gently as you can without putting your hands over any openings. See how it feels when you hover the needle between the crack of the lid and the container. All important stuff to get a feel for so you don't have any bumps or fast movements in there. Maybe even load up that syringe with plain water so you can see how it is to get a single drop out while holding everything else still. That's probably the hardest part.
Good luck and resist the temptation to cut corners.

1 cup of water is more than enough for a PC cycle.
More than that and you're running your pc somewhat inffeciently becuz you're heating all the water to get it to steam. If you have less water in there, then that's less water to heat up initially...
And for that uneven plates issue.., well you can always jam the entire PC with enough number of plates so they sit perfectly still. I hate wasting PC space so I always end up jamming it all the way... but that's just me.
