Fomes fomentarius? on mulberry, confirmed Ganoderma applanatum

Habitat: on mulberry tree
Gills: polypore
Cap: looks like a horse's hoof. beautiful but subtle rings of color, the photo does not do it justice.

So, I am going to make a medicinal tea from this, but how should I go about it? I want to maximize my surface area, but I don't want to ruin my wife's blender.. should I soak it first, then chop and grind, then make tea. That is my plan at this point. Any point doing double extraction with alcohol, or is all the good stuff water soluble?
I am thinking this mushrooms should be super medicinal

Looks a little bit more like Ganoderma applanatum to me, can you cut it in half?

I was hoping this tea could cure my serious medical condition.
Doc says I have a severe case of hypochondriasis.

The applanatum I have found seem flatter. This looked like a horses hoof from the side.
I tried to break it, it was hard as a rock.
Boiling for 3 hours softened it, and I broke it in half.
It clearly has 3 separate layers of the pore tubes:

This has dried out, you can't write on the pore surface once the mushroom has dried. The staining is not useful because Fomes fomentarius also stains on the underside.
This below is Fomes fomentarius. Back when I first started I thought this was G.applanatum.

And Ganoderma applanatum does not always grow flat. Here is a more stacked like form.
http://mushroomobserver.org/145840?q=2gRnC
You can get a rough estimate of which it may be by either cutting it in half to look at the inside flesh, F.fomentarius will have a lighter more fibrous flesh, where G.applanatum will be darker and more woody. G.applanatum may also show multiple tube layers if it is over a year old. You can also look at the spores under a microscope, Fomes has smooth spores while Ganoderma have speckled spores. Counting how many pores per mm can also help.

Cool did not see the additional photos with the cross section. That is definitely G.applanatum. Fomes fomentarius does not get distinct tube layers like that.

Thank you.
After boiling for 3 hrs, I was able to break in pieces, put pieces in coffee grinder, it worked well to powder.
Saved my marriage cuz I didn't break the blender.
I drank a cup of tea, I can feel my hypochondriasis improving already.

If you have hypochondriasis, there is a chance this tea will make you worse.

i think i read someone put chunks into baggies and then into a pillowcase and then you hit it with a sledge hammer a few times.
or maybe i remember thinking thats what i would do if i had to do it.
either way, i think boiling it first sorta defeats the purpose unless you're retaining the boiled water, adding it back to the pulverized bits and reboiling then filtering.
btw, the stuff i use for filtering sugar sand out of maple syrup works great for filtering out spores n crap too, after a couple runs through fresh filter its pretty clear. its a polyester cellulose mix i think

Yeah, I retained the water from first boil, then added back the powder and re-boiled, then filtered. That worked well.
Drinking third cup now. A little bitter; I like it!
