PF spawn ?

my friend has a PF jar that is about 50% colonized.It has been that way for about 2 weeks with little growth.I just did 6 rye jars for himand they are reday to innoculate.he doesnt have any spores left and i have very few to give him.Can he (in a glove box)remove the pf cake and break off pieces of the myceluim to spawn the rye even though the jar is only about 50% colonized?Should he,what i mean by that is will it work well or should i just use these jars and make him more when his syringes come?And how much of the cake should he add to each jar?

Here's what I would do...

take a clean ziplock, and all your jars, all wiped clean with alcohol into your gb. Dump the colonized cake into the ziplock seal it and break it up real good in the ziplock. Dump as much of the busted substrate as you can into each rye jar, while still having enough room to shake the grains.

that should do it, snatchcakes!

good,thats what hell do,but the cake is only 50% colonized and stalled,does he just break off the uncolonized part?ty

Great!!!!now i was wondering,would it be a good idea to always use 1 jar in this way?I could just grow one PF jar because its cheap and easy,then just use that to do grain jars,that way i dont have to buy aloy of verm and BRF ect,1 jar could do 6 or 7 jars.

Why not just start with 6-7 jars of rye or millet, and innoculate that?

good question..:lol: i just thought about what i wrote.  :lol:
really the only reason i can think of is because it would save spores,at this point im buying all my syringes and so is he so it would save alot there,and also wouldnt it speed things up alot by putting mycelium right into the jars?

Yeah I have a neverending g2g transfer going on, always innoculating more grain jars with old colonized ones. Only use syringes to start new strains.

I just did the same thing..you really have to break up the mycelium when adding it to other jars ..or into a bag to spawn...

OR a easier way is to throw into a sterilized blender and add a cup of bottled water..blend well..then pour some into each section of spawn..hope i helped...

Yeh all true, I would look into liquid culture and whole grain if you already have a pc and a glovebox
