peyote graph from seeds
    #2263284 - 01/22/04 06:22 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

hello,

I was blessed with some L. williamsii's seeds.  This is my first time working with seeds. as you understand these seeds are very important to me and I want to make sure everyone survives.  I am going to use different root stocks for the seeds. I figure 6 san pedro stocks, 6 P. torchs, 6 Perskopsis should do it. I figure its time to experiement with which root stock grows the best.  I will be using 160 watts florals to grow them.( I may switch to HPS in a few months though).

I have una thread saved to help me out. thanks!  una thread

ok, now from what I gather, I need to germinate the seeds for a min. of 2 weeks before graphing them onto the stock.  I heard seeds don't have a good germination rate by themselves. so I find this to be contradicting since I will still have to germinate the seeds before graphing them...

can I graph the seeds without germination first?

I need some good books about cacti too... I have "peyote and other psychoactive cacti"... I want to learn about the anotomy of the cacti... I don't understand what some of the terms you guys use.(ie. scion, areoles)

I also heard great results from the superglue method.. but I don't think I would do this with the seed graphs, right?  that once the cacti has grow enough...

:sun: thank for listening to me.. this is my offical thread so I will update my pictures when the time is ready.:sun:

peace

zerohero

First off, not Graph, GRAFT. Aereoles are the places where spines come from, and if the growing tip is ever destroyed, new growth will proceed from the aereoles. Germination is when a green plant first sprouts from the seed...

got to germinate first, then graft. Not possible to put a seed on top of a rootstock and "graft" it that way.

Scion is the name for the plant specimen that is to be grafted to a rootstock.

use some super thrive, it will help with the germination rates ive heard. but i havent really had a bad time with getting peyote to germinate. i have about a 60% germintation ratio. but super thrive has gibberellic acid in it which is naturally occuring in plants.

silica sand? put the seed on top of the sand.. wow I wouldn't have guessed that.

do you use a light when the seed is on the sand? once it germinates, you just follow the rest of una's tek?

yeah I have alot of reading to do.  I think for starters I am going to work with non pyschoactive cati. that way I can get experience under my belt.

I just want a good book to read... I really am not a fan of reading text off the net. (don't get me wrong, I read all the time, but I would like to have a book that I can read at my leisure. )

so any recommendations? ones that you use?

HarveyWalbanger - thanks man!! I will read this so I can get a better understanding.

uhm i think he was referring to a cactus book?

i have 'the plantfinders guide to Cacti and other succulents' its a pretty good read. nothing specifically about peyote, but some good cactus basics like growing from seed, cutting and grafting. and about 100 pages of pictures and descriptions of various cacti.

ive also heard good things about this book

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...nce&s=books

again if your jus lookin for the basics. not anything specifically about peyote.

never grown peyote, but hopefully ill be blessed seeds sometime, and i can give it a shot.
