It’s a tale as old as time, particularly in Europe.

1. uncertainty destabilizes the status quo, making it untenable.
2. both left and right factions rise in popularity
3. Status quo sides with right (and moves the status quo right) to quell left, staving off a threat to capital.

Fascism is inherently untenable though, and capital knows this, it’s a big part of why we sided with the Soviets in WW2, Nazi Germany was never going to last. See, capital needs to distort the contradiction between itself and democracy, and it does this by maintaining a somewhat peaceful neoliberal/social democratic order. “We’ll still do the imperialism and the corruption but the people will have a relatively stable economy and a few benefits to keep them from getting too desperate (govt retirement plans, healthcare, food, shelter).” But over time, concessions to labor will grow to the point of leftist institutions popping up, garnering power and enacting change, all of which threaten capital. So every once in a while capital has to roll things back by temporarily abandoning the unpopular center and getting behind a Mussolini figure. Labor gets crushed, the mask-off version of capitalism is laid bare, and the liberal center is reintroduced as the return to sanity. And capital is not only unscathed, it benefits tremendously.

Has he formed a coalition yet? The Guardian said there is a lot of opposition in the country and his own party, to joining with the far right party.

Yes they are. The majority party in Austria, the center right OVP formed a coalition with the right wing populist FPO.

They're elected representatives by the voters, why is violence your solution to a democratic process?

Why don't you offer an alternative that the majority of voters might embrace instead of promoting violence against them?

I should also note that promoting violence against conservative political ideologies is perfectly fine with the "community standards" around here, correct?  But questioning PC Culture isn't tolerated obviously.

I wasn't being serious, Qman lmao!

I was being serious about eating the rich, though.

Anywayyyys... I'll bite.

I have offered them plenty of alternatives, but there's only one cure for stupid. A large helping of redrum, with a sprinkle of gunpowda.

I'd suggest eating them afterwords, but they might be infectious. We will bury them in shallow graves, and plant corn in neat rows on top of their dead, rotting carcasses. We will use the corn to make ethanol, which will power our vehicles of war onward, til we rid the land of this growing cancer! The rise of the far left will be swift and powerful.

Who's with me?

Aren't you the one always saying that nothing important gets accomplished at the voting booth?
I feel like I could probably go search out about 100 quotes along those lines from over the years.

Exactly. The democratic process only works when it elects fascists. Hitler was elected in a fair democratic election. Were the allies wrong to take him out violently? The former leader of Austria's FPO party said that at least during the Third Reich there was job security. This party gets it's support from people in rural areas who are the least likely to interact with Muslim immigrants yet they are obsessed with them. Sounds a lot like America.

WWII was the last time the U.S. took action against fascists. Since then we have concentrated on removing (and frequently killing) democratically elected leftists like Salvador Allende.

Kindof upset that my comrades are so silent. If nobody is with me, I will have to do it myself. With a lot of drugs, and a can-do attitude, I can be a hero in my own mind!

That's true, but I fail to see your point exactly.

I don't see the protests in Paris over a fuel tax or pension cuts as problematic. I didn't hear of anyone in France calling for death or destruction. I also don't recall advocating for anything other than protesting on the streets. That wasn't what BBW was suggesting, correct?

To recap, I suggested we do this:

I'd suggest eating them afterwords, but they might be infectious. We will bury them in shallow graves, and plant corn in neat rows on top of their dead, rotting carcasses. To which none of my comrades responded, to my overwhelming chagrin.
