casing failure?

Hey guys, a friend of mine in mexico needs help, so I told him I'd post here. He is using the dungstraw bulk neglect tek. He cased a tub of golden teacher, and a tub of mexi-cube. Both were beautifully ran through with nice strong rhizomorphioc mycelium. The gt tub had pins developing on the top of the substrate, but he went ahead and cased it wanting max yield, it has been a week since he cased, and there are no signs of growth. He even prodded down to the substrate, in various places, and there doesnt seem to be any mycelium growing through the casing. Should he take off all the casing, deep scratch the substrate, let the mycelium recover, and then re-case? Or should he wait? The mexi-cube is poking through the casing layer in various spots, and there is a mushroom growing through. It is basically coming along great. He needs help badly, as he doesn't want the gt's beautiful mycelium to go to waste!!!!

depending on the depth of the casing, and the incubation temp, I would give it another few days and see what happened.

Could the casing possibly be too wet? Or, if you sterilized it in the microwave, was it still too warm to apply? (This guy I know perpetrated the latter once.) The reason I ask is because there should probably be some growth after a week.

He said it wasn't too wet, but he did say it may have been too warm, what would have to be done to coorect that mistake?

just bring the temps down to 80-85 and let it colonize the casing layer.

why are my temps out of line? 86F is optimal for colonization is it not?

My casing are room temp once I'm ready to FRUIT. But when I make a new casing I return it to the incubator for a few days till the myc colonizes the casing layer.
I think 80-85 is right on for colonization of a casing layer, which is what I think Senovio is looking for our help on.

I was in a similar situation once. I waited to long to case and the casing wouldn't colonize. I didn't know what I was doing though back then. You said there were pins forming? Maybe when fruiting is occuring, colonization is less of a priority for the mycelium. My 2 cents

You will want a second opinion, but the logical advice, should the casing material have been hot enough to damage the myc. on and nearest the surface, would be to remove the casing and some of the sub. as well--sort of like a really deep scratching. When the guy I know burnt his myc (on top of 4" of horse poo ) it never did recover. He thinks that he could have dug deeper into the sub.... I dunno. Like I said, please get a second opinion. Good luck. -Che

Id do the exact same thing. However I haven't been casing long enough to tell 1 way or the other yet.
