This happens when the pressure regulator isn?t working properly. Is it dirty somehow, is anything in there?

My pressure cookers fucked now too. Water comes out of the top and steam never even comes out of the rocker, it just comes out the sides and handle. Anyone know whats wrong?

My rubber thing came out aswell, only not when it was cooking, just when it was being moved somewhere.. so now I have no idea where it is. Covering the hole with some plenty heavy stuff is basically the best thing you can do, its not too dangerous due to the fact that if you cover it properly you should get the rocker moving anyway. It is a pain but think of it this way, if you can get the rocker moving with something imperfectly covering the rubber thing hole (ie venting small amount of pressure) then you probably have some decent pressure, because that rocker doesn't move until there is 15psi pushing it up.

Hope that helps.

Trouble is, they seem to have different ones for every one don't they? I may be wrong though, I'd love to fix it up.

It's not good to use your PC until you replace the little black thingie! That's the over-pressure cap. It pops out when you have too much pressure. If you think it's safe go ahead, but it sounds like your flames way to high. Once you get to 15 psi you don't need much heat to keep it there. I have to turn my stove down to medium. Also, if your PC makes alot off hissing noise (like my cheap Presto), turn the heat down. You can remain at 15 psi without much noize if you can hit a sweet spot. Check your seals for pitting, softness, hardness, etc. and refer to your manual if you have one. You don't want that shit taking out your cabinets or yourself!

I'm not too worried about using it how it is. I don't run the pressure cooker very high anyway becuase I hate the noise. And fact of the matter is, I now have an imperfect seal on my overpressure valve, so it is very hard to attain too much pressure anyway.

looks like you either:
Didnt have enough water and the system became too hot so the saftey valve melted (what its supposed to do) and released all the steam.
OR you where trying to get too much pressure in a cooker that isnt designed (safety wise) to hold that much, so the valve blew to prevent your death.

I would make sure your little guy is designed to hold the kind of PSI you are looking for. Surprisingly a lot of people buy those ones that only hold 10-12. Also, like Anno said, an inch is good BUT, you can still lose all that water if you dont regulate the heat. The rocker valve releases pressure in the form of water vapor, so if you have it too hot and its constantly releasing a lot of vapor you are going to lose all of your water before you can finish the job. I always watch mine until im satisfied that the rocker is releasing the smallest amount of steam necessary.

Someone correct me if im wrong.
