A new Windows Worm discovered....
    #2254219 - 01/19/04 08:44 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

"Bagle virus hides as calculator
The Bagle virus has tricked lots of people
Warnings are being issued about the rapidly spreading Bagle Windows worm.

The virus poses as a test message and so far has tricked people in 87 countries into opening it and helping it spread.

Bagle plunders address books for e-mail addresses and uses an in-built mail program to send itself to new victims.

It also tells its creator about an infected computer and tries to open a backdoor that a malicious hacker could use to take control of the machine.

The Bagle worm can be spotted in e-mail inboxes as it always has a subject line that reads simply: "Hi" "

(From BBC News)

Although the article doesn't mention it, I strongly suspect that this exploits yet another securty hole in OutLook Express. If you must use this program for your e-mail, disable script execution!

Waits for the "well linux dosnt have the market space that microsoft has, if linux was on all the desktops it would have a bunch of worms and garbage too!"

Well, the most used webserver on the internet is apache, thus making it the most attacked server software on the net right? Nope, not even close, MSIIS takes that one. You know I bet it's has something to do with being easy to break..

Not really...
For one thing, Linux doesn't have an army of people writing malicious code for it.
As far as the server argument goes, the Shroomery is on a Linux server, and we all know how "reliable" it is.

Thats just the statement I was talking about...

>and we all know how "reliable" it is.
Yeah, the server is damned reliable. It's one bit of software, mySQL, that is causing the problems. mySQL is available for all types of platforms. In other words, the problems the shroomery have currently are not linux problems.

Well if there are exploits found they are plugged quickly. As most of you know these evil viruses are often modelled around exploits that have been publicised but Microsoft has not got around to posting patches. Personally I have to wonder why there was a thumbs down icon attached to this thread.

There are so many inroads into windows its hilarious. The greatest windows exploit though is the fact that the majority of people are really not savvy with what they are doing. I think its hilarious that computers can be attacked with a human exploit. Brilliant.

And as far as the server argument does go, the fact that the shroomery is "unreliable" has nothing to do with linux, but of load. Any server under load is going to crumble if enough load is placed upon it and as we know, regarding this board it has already been stated that it is due to mysql under extreme duress.
