Compost seems to work well
    #2257498 - 01/20/04 08:12 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Taken from THE

"Some fantastic pictures of the Thailand Koh Samui classic Cubensis.
These were grown from multi-spore inoculation on birdseed, then crumbled and mixed with compost. Topped off with 50/50+ casing mix. They were grown in an open air greenhouse type setup with controlled humidity and temps fluxuated between 75-82F. These are also 3rd generation from the wild"

Ok I havent seen anything on this before. The inoculated substrate is mixed with the compost first, THEN topped off with casing. Hmmmm is there any more info on this. Essentially your increasing the "food" for the mushies?

They have a fantastic pic of a 15Lb. of compost kit flourishing. I am wondeing if the compost is what did, it cause everyone elses Koh Samui seems weakling compared.

~thanks~

it's a common procedure for bulk grows...

the compost is pasturised, spawned with colonized substrate, allowed to colonize, and cased as usual.

I saw a GREAT bulk tek using 3 coir bricks and 5lbs of worm castings that is reported to produce a 1st flush of 1/4lbs dry!

Do you think course verm would work better as it would airate it better or do you think coir is the key?

I'm not sure, but I think it would work just as well. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say coir is a better choice for cheapness and water retention reasons.

I would say anywhere between 1/2-1/3 colonized substrate, more will colonize faster and leave less chance for contams...
