Is there a best tray size for casing?
    #2257186 - 01/20/04 08:46 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Why is it that all the casings I see are always in a relativly small container, or basically the size of a rectangle aluminum chinese take out container but taller. That or 2x that size.

Whats wrong with a casing in one big/bigger container?  :crazy2:  :lipsrsealed:  .........  :eyemouth:

also

Whats the least depth of innoculated area you would go with when casing? What do you personally feel is best?

~thanks~

Choose a container for your amount of substrate, you want at least 2 inches of substrate

Ok so basically its how much I want to risk contam on the whole thing right?

Smaller containers, less chance of whole job getting botched and thats it, correct?

There is 11 jars, what size container will that fill?

~thanks~

by compartmentalizing, that is making many seprate small casings instead of 1 biggun, you can toss 1 small casing if it contams instead of tossing your whole bigass casing.

11 jars could make a BIG casing. If one was so inclined...look at come bulk teks.

I agree with Simplemachine. Many casings contam less than one casing. Also, I've read that the optimum depth for cubensis is 4 inch. But like the Darksideof Paco said at least 2 inch.

It is an interesting thing, to make such a big casing. If you are interested in doing it for doing its sakes then by all means but if your goal is yield, success rate etc then you would not put all your eggs in one basket.

Smaller containers less chance yes, but there is something to be said for seperating the smaller containers so you can avoid cross contamination.
