Aluminum Pressure Cooker
    #2256925 - 01/20/04 07:23 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I have always had a gas stove in all of the homes I have ever owned. I recently moved a few months ago and the house I am in now has an electric stove, more specifically one with a glass top cook surface. Like this one

My pressure cooker was warped from several years of use and it was a cheapo model so I went out and bought another just like it, but I have come across several articles that state you should not use aluminum cookware on a glass top stove because the aluminum could melt and damage your cooking surface;

the stove works fine so I am not going to replace it any time soon but have recently looked into a 21.5 quart All American PC. I assumed these were made from stainless steel but come to find out they are aluminum as well. Does anyone use an all american or other aluminum cookers on a glass top stove and should it be alright or should I keep my eye out for a stainless steel one.

Glass top stoves - These stovetops cycle on and off repeatedly -- even as frequently as every few seconds -- this is normal. Most manufactures do not officially recommend aluminum in case it melts and leaves a residue on the cook top. Use a stainless steel pressure cooker with a 3-ply base if you own one of these stoves.

someone uses a 22 quart PC on a flat top stove -- a few times it was noticed that there is a SLIGHT aluminum matter left on the surface -- but it removes easily -- you would have to be doing some industrial PC'ing on the flat top to hurt it

if the aluminum melted id be more worried about the PC turning into a grenade than the stove.

but -- yeah -- someone uses similar setup np all day..
