UPDATE: received: Best HiFi Cans
    #2255466 - 01/20/04 08:52 AM (20 years, 2 months ago)

I'm lookin for some great high quality headphones, and I'm willing to spend up to 100 bucks. I'll be mostly using it with my computer, so not for use in like a pro audio studio, but I'd like something similar quality. Wireless isn't a big deal, but I know there's tons of tek like noise cancellers, and built in sub vibrations, etc... dunno what's worth it, and what isn't.

Anyone have any suggestions?

What HIFI magazine recommend Grado SR60,Grado SR80 and RS1, check them out.
Also Beyer DT231 Galactic, I?ve never heard of Grado but if What Hifi says there
good then there good.
The Grado RS1 might be a bit overbudget. GRADO

I have the SR80's, paid 99 bucks for them. One of the best buys I ever made. The sound is crisp and vivid. Once you get used to them everything else, even really good speakers, sounds like shit.

The only problem I have with Grados is that the earpieces aren't very comfortable to wear for long periods of time (2 hours+), but its never really been a big deal. I just adjust the ear pads a bit and they feel fine.

well, i play around with turntables so that explains my choice, sony v700. very comfortable, great sound. i'm sure you could match the sound for less but the physical design is unbeatable. granted it is designed for DJ use. look in the right places and you can get them for under 1 Cnote.

I also highly recommend the Grados

check out this site for reviews and comparisons:
http://www.goodcans.com/HeadphoneReviews/

3 things about Grado headphones:

1. they have an open air design which means there will be a lot of sound leakage, so it might not be a good idea to use them in a very noisy environment or in a quiet environment, like in an office where everyone will be able to hear your music. if you want good closed headphones, check out the sennheisers (though they're more expensive and don't sound as good as the Grados)

2. they need a long break-in period. I'd say about 50 hours at mid-high volume. they're going to sound pretty bad out of the box but that's normal, just give it some time.

3. they're not the most comfortable to use, they have seperate wires for each channel, which can be a hassle, and the pads aren't that great. but hey, it's all about the SOUND!

Check out my sig.  It will tell you everything you need to know and more.  I recently picked up a pair of Alessandro ms-1?s for $99 shipped.  Grado teamed up with Alessandro?s high end products to make them.  It is a souped up sr-80 that is closer to the sr-125 for a much lower price.  They are 32 ohms so they are easily powered by a sound card or a portable device.  These cans were everything I had hoped for.  They are crystal clear with plenty of impact and dynamics.  Shpongle never sounded so great! :bong:

I wanted to order those too, but they don't seem to ship outside the US.
I searched and searched and couldn't find a shop that is as cheap as the one you mentioned and ships to europe (without paying 50$ for shipping )

maybe someone here knows where I can order them?
