Cyans in BC?
    #2256147 - 01/20/04 03:09 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Unfortunately I can not get pictures of them, but I found a patch of mushrooms growing out of a tree stump on Saturday.
The spore print is white, the caps were wavy and slimy, the color of the cap was brown, some got lighter towards the edges, the stems were white with sort of dark streaks all over them, and hollow, filled with alot of juice.

the younger mushrooms had rounded slimy caps, dark brown in the middle and lighter towards the edges.
im not sure what kind of tree the stump was from.

if the spore print is white, they are not P. cyanescens.

you will not be finding them this time of the year in a normal year [without freak warmth and still maintaining percipitation [things that do not usualy go together in temperate winters].

white spores and growth in ascociation with trees or on lignious litter wuld seem to suggest trichilomatacae. if you would like to have them identified out of curiosity, feel free to post a complete description of them. if i get tme i will try to help and if i don't, someone else might.

If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

wait; when you say filled with juice, do you mean that they where water logged, or that they exuded a kind of latex when injured?

your description seems to point to the genus Lactarius. many species have clear latex, often staining when with drying. you say the stipes had colored streaks; what color where they? did you notice if the latex itself stained/dried any particular color?

can you describe the texture of the cap in detail? use a magnifying lens if you have one [hand lens, reading glasses, etc.].

can you describe the spaing of the gills?

the substance inside the stem was slimy, sticky when dry, always colorless. the caps texture was slimy, but under that it was rough. the striping on the stem was grey-blue.
