well today was a bust I drove over 200 miles round trip looking for some fall oviods. looks like im waiting until spring time.. It would be really cool if some one could send me a colonized wood chip or something of that nature so I could start a patch where I live..... speaking on that, If I had one full colonized chip and placed it with other chips how long would it take to colonize other chips and when would it be likely to produce?
If no one wants to send any in the mail I would be more then happy to drive 3.5 hours to pick some up.... just throwing that out there.
I checked poch state park... im calling BS on that place... I think who ever marked it found a blue foot not an oviod there are O flood plains with the water they have.
I also check james river in richmond but I had no idea where to look. or how to get any place. I used google earth and it only got me so far.
I also looking in williamsburg the water there is 100% fresh not brackish but I couldn;t get to any suitable habitat.

Knowingly sending a colonized wood chip could be against the law, so we won't do that. Somebody might send a spore print.

just venting my frustrations. I know it wouldn't happen. I found spots that looked right but I know conditions haven't been ideal and the fall is a long shot. but I figured with all the fruiting in my area it would be good other places. I know that areas have there own micro climates. guess I just wanted to get out today and look around. it wa pouring all day to top it off, that didn't bother me. the lack of other fungi growing was a shock.
I was just hoping that there would be more. I know next week will be better but Im going out of state right when things will be popping up and Ill be getting back when they are all gone >_< so i made a heroic drive today to get it out of my system. it was nice exploring other parts of the stat though. I think poch state park is prim area for blue foots... I would have taken picks minus the rain and camera gear don't mix. I came across an animal carcass not a raccoon maybe a small beaver? alI also found one log with clusters of what may have been gym L but they hadn't popped yet the veils were all attached and when I did open one up the gills wernt orange so I left them be.
I was also looking for gyms but there was 0 but that one find..
but any ways that was my day escapades.

Those black caps are awesome!..I have yet to run across any of that breed...@spearo...you are a dedicated man to be out in the bush on a day like yesterday. The only mushrooms I've seen besides ovoids are galerinas and a few oysters and armillaria.
You have found some good habitat...I think the spring will be good for you. I would never have found these fall ovoids if I didn't first find these areas in the Spring. It is because they were there in the Spring that I am looking there today.
Next Spring...find an area where they should be and ask the mushrooms to appear. You may be surprised, but this worked for me.

You have to get on your knees to make the request for the mushrooms to appear, or it doesn't work.

Good finds all! I've dedicated about 100 hours this fall with double that this part spring. No luck. Thursday I did come across a nice patch of gyms that are still drying out. The largest one was slightly dried when I picked it and weighed over 108 grams. 3 days later and they still aren't completely dehydrated. Now if it rained all day Thursday, yesterday was 62 and sunny, with tempos today in the low 50s, when will they pop again? Should I go like right now and look for ovoids?

There is a flush coming up right now where I am. I imagine it will be the last flush of the year, looking at the temps coming up.

You will never find them in North Ohio. Maybe you might. But your chances are next to zero. They may have been found in NE Ohio once...

Going out tomorrow to collect the pins I left from 4 days ago.
We'll see how they liked the 20 degree temps...
I bet they look like little blue Smurf mushrooms.

The black caps turn a variety of color with cold and rain as shown in the assortment below - curiously, they all turn carmel in hot water

Why wouldn't they be in Northern Ohio?

They generally don't range that far north. Psilocybes like warmth.

They also seem to require cold temps - but not too cold. They have a pretty limited range.
