Who says the program doesn't remove the desire to drink?  When I was about 2 years sober, finished my step work, and started sponsoring I definitely had the desire to drink remove.  I was able to sit at bars without having to drink, and very fulfilled.

You seem to make A lot of assumption s about the program.

Fortunately I don't need your approval to live a fulfilling happy life.  Almost 7 years booze free, amazing wife job friends etc.

I also have begun to incorporate psychedelics in to my life but that wasn't until 4 years in.  I saw an alcoholic with a year and a half sober take lsd for his first venture back in to mood altering substances...3 days later he was back drinking smoking crack...because his spiritual toolbox so to speak was pretty weak.

LSD doesn't cure alcoholism...neither does AA.

But they both can help steer somebody away from a drink.  The difference between the two is that one of them actually helps you grow up.  I had amazing psychedelic experiences before aa...yet I still drank and hurt those around me.

AA helped me grow up.  LSD didn't.  So while your opinion may be negative of aa, it doesn't matter...because aa works for many many people. Self included

For the record salvia also has the ability to flash the understanding that you should not drink anymore.  Similiar to how psilocybin can get you to see cigarettes are no good.  That paired with a solid understanding of the AA steps could potentially be a good set of tools to have handy (I suppose since I'm not familiar with them on a personal level).  Kind of like the faith+works approach.

The thing about these substances though is it's not a given that you will get the "revelation", it can happen, but it's not a guarantee.  The muscle work is a more guaranteed effort in regards to positive returns.  I don't suspect there is a magic bullet, at least not one that I am aware of.

Quote:

AA does do some good, but if you can not sit in a bar while others are getting drunk around you without you yourself having the desire to drink, then have you really solved your problem?

This is just plain wrong. AA says the opposite."In our belief any scheme of combating alcoholism which proposes to shield the sick man from temptation is doomed to failure"
"So our rule is not to avoid a place where there is drinking, if we have a legitimate reason for being there."

I can go anywhere at any time and not fret over a drink...this obsession for a drink has long been removed from me.

Quote:

If you become just as dependant on meetings as you were to going to the bar, and have to take things minute by minute to keep yourself from drinking, than have you really solved your problem?

The reason I go to meetings is not because my life will fall apart without them...it is to help the newcommers to a better way of life....freedom from alcohol.

Quote:

It's great that it keeps people sober, but that's about the only positive aspect of this particular sobriety cult.

That is another truly indignant statement. AA is about  getting to and addressing  the causes and conditions of the disease of alcoholism. It is about changing the person so that he will be a better and more responsible part of society. It promotes giving freely, making amends to people and institutions we have crossed and doing a searching and fearless moral inventory so we can better understand the causes and conditions.

Quote:

When AA incorporates psychedelics I will feel it's actually working towards solving these people's problems, rather than just keeping them sober.

Bill Wilson's thoughts about LSD were geared toward helping people better feel and understand the concept of spirituality. Nothing more....most people come to find their own conception toward spirituality without help from mind altering drugs. Me, I agree that LSD and mushrooms can help with this...I still use them a couple times a year.

Maybe read a big book of AA...there is a copy here on the first page of this thread.:sunny::peace:

My uncle is probably my dearest friend and closest family member besides my wife. Every time we see him and his wife we just leave glowing with love.

But he is an alcoholic and has been for a long time. He started puking blood recently.

I can't even let myself think about it yet. Started crying just making this post. No no no no no no no

I dunno how old or what he has but I puke blood. Well gastro entinitius. You're stomach shedding it's lining like a womans uterus.

The nurse told me I wont live past 30. Ouch but I wouldn't be surprised or scared about it. No matter what I do. Climb mountains no ropes, Snowboard down them falling stories into snow, etc.

My ass should have been dead long ago. With my ex drugging and my current drinking, and just being a general young kid. I should be dead. Lord knows many better people than I are. But I keep waking up. I won't let anything kill me. I'm fucking stubborn as shit. Well my body just refuses to die.

I'ts hard to explain I just want to give up on life and everything. I see what the world is. I'm an indentured servant. Atleast doing those things I had a choice. Landing this trick is better than eating snow.

How old are you know?

Sorry your feeling fatalistic.  I've felt the same at times.

I hope you find whatever you need to recharge your love of Life.

Falling in love , finding a passion , finding God/ religion, a sport or martial art or spiritual practice, a creative outlet...

Whatever you need I hope you find it .

I'm 26 now.

Those are things I used to do in my home alaska. From 18-22.

I've lost a lot of passion for life once I left. I was never a drinker like this until I left home ya know. Everything I know. I have a ton of acqueintances? (sp) But I don't have any real friends. I know a lot of people I can drink with and buy drugs off of but i'm clean of all of it. But I spend most of my days by myself.

It doesn't snow here i've clocked it 3 times it drizzles. That was my time I'm a january baby winter is my shit. There is nothing like being at the top of a mountain just pure silence. No matter your problems or any thought this is here and now. I'm going to make this mountain my bitch. I miss it so much.

I've sat in this very spot many times. Yes i'm home. I used to live quite an interesting life until I moved here. No oppurtunity no work. I was making 25 bucks an hour as a busser like it was nothing.

It's been so long and everyone I know has scattered across the lower 48. I would love to visit home but the place is constantly changing I doubt i'd recognize it.

I dunno I'm scared and I don't have a yacht or anything. I've failed as a person but I have to keep trying until I'm sure that I'm happy with what I bring home. Ya know?

Back to the shroomery! Lol. Been on hiatus for over a year, just came back recently and been lurking around.

Anyway, I completed the 12 steps and realized I felt just as shitty when I was done as I did when I started. N I worked them with a SAVAGE of a sponsor, circuit speaker, dude who sponsors 30 guys and is everything I wanted to be as a human being. But I said fuck AA and dropped him as a sponsor and started getting high which I justified because im really an alcoholic. Funny how that works.

Anyway, been drug free about a month now (minus 6 ketamine infusions I did for depression which didn't do shit.) just checking in, hope everyone's doing aright.
