I remember a guy who was at all of the meetings I went to who was writing in a tablet the entire meeting when it wasn't his turn to talk.  The third one I was at he sat next to me and I finally saw out of the corner of my eye what he was doing with the tablet.  He was drawing pictures of naked women similar to what a 13 year old kid would do.  These were no masterpieces either and the guy was in his 60's.

What was the speaker saying while you were watching this guy?

No one ever said AA is the end all/ cure all for everyone. It is for people who desperately want to get sober and I see that you are not one of those. I am sure if you ever met me or any of my friends from AA outside of the rooms, you would never guess we were members....Not because we hide it, but because we choose to enjoy life on lifes terms....just without a drink in hand.
I hated going to meetings for 10 years before I finally wanted to get sober....thought, pretty much the same as you. I am just glad that AA was still there when I had enough of a beat down....And, that's why I still go, to make sure it's still there for people that want a solution....not, necessarily people that need it....big difference.:sunny::peace:

this is a hella first post

doing pretty ok with my drinking. managed the holidays and my birthday without getting too fucked up. the regular work thing is helping a lot with that plus my ice maker is broken.

drinking is usually a ego  :circlejerk: one way or another.

Pretty well. still no sponsor or home group or anything though, im mainly just going to meeting and listening to get a feel for them. i just got back from a 12/12 meeting, and i was a few minutes late because i went to the wrong church. felt very awkward walking in late. they were all nice people though, i was probably the youngest there by like 15 years

Cravings are pretty minimal, but ive been eating and craving carbs alot since i got out of rehab and need to cut back on that because i'm already overweight

Hey.

Hope you're feeling better today. If not you know there are a bunch of links in a thread that's stickied at the top of this forum that might be beneficial if you're still feeling that way.

I am on Day 3 sober from alcohol. I want to really do it this time. It may be time for me to attend some 12 step meetings just to see. It's just about the only thing I have not tried yet.....

The only meeting you're late for is the first. I would recommend going early though...that is where alot of good stuff happens...people are more themselves...talking about life stuff....Called the meeting before the meeting. Also, keep some sweets, especially chocolates handy...this is a tried and true way to combat cravings...it has to do with the high sugar content of alcohol. You can work on your weight when you get a little more comfortable...Oldtimers used to say...I never saw anyone get locked up for eating too many oreos....very true. The most important thing in your life right now is your sobriety.

@yogabunny...again...the first meeting is the only one we are usually late for....I had to exhaust all of my resources before I was finally ready to try something as lowly as praying for help...lol. Seems dumb, doesn't it....like, who's gonna see me pray anyway?Awesome on the 3 days!!!!

Shane:

Please take yogabunny's advice...mental health is something that sometimes needs to be treated separately. There are professionals that know much more about these things than any of us. Like I said in your IM...I have several friends in AA that have to take antidepressants for one reason or another and they are now able to apply the steps to their lives where before they couldn't get past their depression enough to start anything. I'm not saying you need anything like this but please seek help from people that are qualified in this spectrum. We love ya buddy, and want you around.

feel so good. taking super good care of my mind, body and spirit. i have so much creative energy now that i am channeling into my career. becoming somewhat of a workaholic, but in a way it's just that im catching up on so much that i've missed out on previously because i was always hungover and low energy.....

I was doing so well about, 6 days sober then fell off the wagon again  was just getting back into working out and taking care of myself but then my shoulder injury started acting up again and I'm back in a chair getting drunk because I can't even go for a walk without extreme pain.

Good for you Yogabunny and sorry to hear Reb. Pain is something that you can live with without drinking though, IME alcohol doesn't do much for it but knock you out when your BAC gets high enough.
I have RA and wake up every morning just wondering where it is gonna hurt this time...this morning was wrists...last week shoulders, hands...every day is feet.
I'm not trying to say how wonderful I am...just that, in my time sober I have been able too get through deaths in the family, jail time, daily pain...anything that life throws at me without a drink. I have seen people in a 7:00 am meeting...later burying one of their children at noon because they didn't want to drink over it. You can get through anything..just ask God for help and get to a meeting....being around people with the same affliction helps immensely.

Thanks!

:bunnypeace:

It's been coming pretty easily this time. I turned 35 in September and my health is starting to deteriorate. I've realized that my body just can't take it anymore. I have Joint Hyper-mobility Syndrome and my blood sugar is testing as pre-diabetic. I can either continue down the path of alcoholism and end up need to shoot myself up with insulin and probably get a knee replacements before I'm 50; OR I can take charge of my health and wellness.

With the JHS diagnosis I am taking a very mild dose of a beta blocker metoprolol to help with heart palpitations and anxiety. I'm hoping that will help me even more to stay away from self-medicating with alcohol.

For sure alcohol will not get along well with either of those maladies...That, alone usually doesn't stop an alcoholic from drinking...If common sense, book smarts, and will power worked, there would be no need for AA. I'm hoping with all my heart you get this Yoga and Reb...even praying for you....as hokey as that may sound.
I heard an old timer say that he prays for others because he's not sure whose prayers got him there.....works for me.:sunny::peace:
