Didnt think I'd ever post here. For TWO reasons actually.

The first reason because I never thought I would be addicted to something.

The second reason because once I became addicted to booze I didnt think I'd ever actually quit.

Have I quit? Probably not.

I just hit my longest sober that I can even remember. I'm at 3 weeks now. Longest I remember being is 5 days.

I'm quite bored. I have a lot of "its weird that im not high right now" vibes. But I'm kinda "addicted tangential". I dont have these pull to drink that I'm used to. Maybe it will return? Maybe not?

Just some words for yall. Just words.

I would say the worst thing about addiction is the loss and destruction left behind with ruined relationships and death!!

I had the same thing happen and it got me thinking.  Drinking is what you did.  When you would otherwise be doing other things, having other interests, you were drinking.  It’s like your brain has to clutch back to sober reality and start chemically triggering to your interactions with hobbies and interests.  Boozing and drugs really fuck with your brain’s reward systems.  So it takes awhile for it to trigger while sober when what it’s used to is the trigger of alcohol.

Congratulations

That’s a long time without making that stupid mistake even once. The longer my continued sobriety lasts the more value I see in investing in not allowing a slip to happen. I remember early on thinking WTF you got this beat when people spoke about having multiple years. Now I understand how easy it would be to fuck it up if you don’t keep your head in the right place.

And it’s worth saying twice. Congratulations. Fucking huge brother. LIFE!!!

3 Main things were happening.

The first and most important one was I was starting to have a worse and worse memory. I would forget things almost as they happened.

I havent drank in 27 days now. My memory is still horrible. I may have permanently damaged my memory. It gets so frustrating forgetting things even if I say it outloud 10 times before I go to the grocery store. Or before I leave for work.

I forget things. I forget so many things.

Number 2 was I started legit blacking out. I would completely and entirely forget the previous night. Not like "it was a blur" or "I remember bits and pieces" but quite literally forget everything. And often times I would be told of the rampages I would go on. Breaking things. Doing illegal things. Luckily I am not a fighter while drunk so I have never been in any fights. But a LOT of embarrassing things.

And number 3 I would have this intense anxiety and "Regret feeling" the next day. Even if I sat at home and watched movies and send no messages and talked to no one. For some reason I would wake up the next morning feeling as if I had done something and someone saw it and I should be ashamed. The alcohol was literally giving me anxiety. In a non-rational way.

My main and strongest reasons for why I'm trying to quit.... is the memory. From the research I've done it could be Korsakoff syndrome.
I do not want to lose my memory. If I must stay where I am right now with this shitty memory.... I definitely dont want it any worse.

Wet brain is horrifying. At your point, if you find yourself pouring a drink just call 911. Tell them you’re trying to quit and you had a seizure and hit your head and fell unconscious. Even if you’re lying.

Not trying to frighten you but you’re dying. You’re killing yourself with booze and it’s not a fun way to go. Once you get full wet brain it’s game over. If it’s brain fog it still takes a couple years of sobriety to clear up.

You are in a life and death emergency.
