Does melatonin keep you asleep??

I work a shit schedule. I have to be up very early tomorrow and I have melatonin and benedryl.
Will the melatonin keep me asleep or should I just use the benedryl?

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

If you don't have time for at least 8 hours of snoozin, I don't recommend it.

It helps me fall asleep more than keep me asleep. If I take 2 pills, which I think is 10mg, I have crazy dreams. The kind of dreams you have right after a mushroom trip. Now I just take 1 melatonin and 1 benydryl if I feel like I need them,

I get used to it very quickly and it will not put me to sleep if my schedule is super out of whack, but it definitely helps support good quality sleep. I often have a dreamless sleep because I'm an insomniac and my body is constantly just trying to catch up on sleep(so I don't hit REM the way I should) and on melatonin I dream so, so much.

I've taken melatonin more for the dreams than to actually help me sleep
They're unreal
And yet seem so real
It's surreal
It's straight up like living in a sci-fi movie usually

When I wake up after these crazy dreams I feel like I wasn't even really sleeping and sometimes it even makes me anxious so it kind of backfires on me if I take too much. I only take it about 4 times a year now.

I don't take it often either, I generally go into it with the same mindset as if I were taking psychedelics.
I never had need to take a high dose, I take about 3 - 5 mg & it does its thing. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that taking high doses tend to have reverse effects & keep people awake.

if using melatonin supplements, start low and take it at sunset to mimic the natural hormone. it works to regulate your wake-sleep cycles, the quality of your sleep- it won't so much help you fall/stay asleep.

I would just deal with the insomnia and take an uplifting nootropic in the morning with a bunch of coffee.

Yep. You sleep really deep on melatonin. A little goes a long way tho.
Give it 45 minutes to fully kick in
I like to pair it with Valerian root. Gives you a nice "sleep body high" before it knocks you out

You should use doxylamine succinate instead. It's actually the "best" over the counter sleep aid and the most effective. It doesn't give you a nasty sleeping pill hangover like benedryl does.
Melatonin is shit. It might get you to sleep, but for me, I ALWAYS woke up a few hours later and couldn't get back to sleep for the life of me.
A word of advice though: Do not take antihistamines daily or else your tolerance will skyrocket pretty fast. Don't take them more than 2-3 times a week, and NEVER daily. Skip a day or two.
