Questions about Azures & Cyans
    #22543982 - 11/18/15 08:39 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

So I believe I found my first Azures today & I had a question - what is the usual size of Azures as compared to Cyans? Can anyone with experience hunting both comment?

That's looking like an Azzy fer sure. Take a Spore print. Give us more pics.

To be clear, I am not asking if this picture is or isn't an azure, I'm asking for experienced azure hunters to comment on their experience of the typical physical size of azures as compared with the typical size of cyanescens

Azzies can be huge like 40+g wet, but the come from lil pins. Cyans can be huge too like 30+ g wet but they also come from lil pins

Depends on phenotype and maturity. Average though azzies are generally bigger in height and mass.

Thanks - it's strange then, cause the azures I was finding today were smaller in general than the typical cyans that I pick but I always heard that azzies were bigger. Hmm. Maybe I just found a weird patch? Or just an unusual number of round, pointy-headed cyans...?

That happens, environment is all. Cyans are averaging bigger than azzy this year.

I wouldn't call it strange to find lil azzies, just not the usual. It's common enough for barely established patches to have small fruits, also some varieties like to stay small when in unfavorable substrate, while also choosing to grow large when in more desirable conditions meters away.

I was finding fat short stacks in one spot and today finally found some long stemmed ones about 30 miles away. One thing I learned from azzies is either homogenize them all or keep them separate. They do indeed vary patch to patch from substrate and other conditions. Only reason I mention it is I had taken an eighth to go heroic one night and that didn't fly.. but then 1.5g knocked my socks clean off my feet from another patch.

Just sayin is all :jah:
