Tripping and music- speakers with bass VS headphones
    #2222894 - 01/06/04 11:12 AM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all, I was wondering what you would say is better to use for music when tripping. My computer speakers have a sub, and the bass is pretty nice. It's cool when I'm tripping because I can really feel the music, but I think headphones would be just as good because you would be totally immersed in the sound. What do you think?

why don't try both headphones ans speakers and see what you like best. It can depend on your mood or other things what you like more at that moment...
experimenting is fun

With headphones you're able to pick up on the fine details of the songs that you can't pick up when it's blaring over the speakers.

With speakers you can actually feel the music flow through you. That feeling is no less then amazing!

Each option is great... but I think you should choose according to your mood and situation.

I prefer speakers, since I love dancing while tripping - esp. on shrooms.

However, one of my most incredible experiences was being sat down in front of a Monet while someone put headphones on me with Mozart playing.

i have a nice set of sony dj headphones with amazing sound and amazing bass and once time i was tripping on 500mg dxm and i wanted to see wut it was like so i put on some neophyte and cranked it and as soon as the sound hit my ears i was just in a complete trance. the music hit me and i could feelit it sounded so good and it sounded like it was just coming from my head it was the trippiest thing i have had happen with music while tripping. my vote goes to headphones as long as they are good quality ones.

it all depends, do you want to move around?
personally i use head phones, because speakers are gonig to anchor you.
although if youre at a rave, with some fat DnB pouring out of the speakers moving around wont be a problem

i think most headphones can support a lower frequency (meaning better base) than traditional speakers.

Subs would provide more vibration that you could feel with your body though.

speakers with bass, don't get tangled up in headphone wires and your subs would probably go well with the shrooms imho ;]

It depends on the circumstances. If I'm sitting around at home, and the house is empty I'll set up the speakers and crank it. If I'm outdoors and tripping, definitely headphones - invest in a good CD player pouch that clips around your waist so you can explore or lay down without having to worry about where the CD player is.

I prefer those big earphones that cover the whole ear, they usually have the best bass, but for comfortaility I usually listen to speakers at home, but I allways trip outside... I would say earphones.
Yesterday I was high on pot (for the first time in a looooooooooooong time, not long as in what stoners usually mean by a long time, I mean a loooooooooong time) and this guy had tuned up my guitar and speaker perfectly (I play punk so I never care how the sound normally is) and he was playing blues and slow rock solo's slow and nice for good high listening and listening to that shit was like a mental orgasm, I totally fell into a trance and it was amazing cause I never knew my guitar could sound so good. Live intimate music (oposed to live concert performances) is the MOST amazing wether high, normal or tripping, classic guitar, electric or base, its a whole 'nother thing when its live and upclose!

after a while of "good bass" the vibration in my chest starts to annoy me :frown:

that said, i still use speakers... but big headphones seem interesting

You can get headphones that plug into your ears properly, like earplugs, they are meant to have really good bass.
I couldnt really imagine listening to headphones in a social tripping environment, but they would be much better when you are alone IMO.

I like headphones because I always hear things that i've never heard before.  If I am with a group I will listen to a stereo but if I really want to get into the music I'll use headphones.

Here is a great site on headphones.

I've got these killer little studio monitor speakers in my room so if I'm not using my headphones, I use them
My Speaks: http://www.midiman.com/index.php?do=products.focus&ID=c89fb7c8339b56ad8e64e509a317579a

My Headphones: http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=4001&Category=Monitoring <- these are pretty clear but man they're a bit uncomfortable for long listening sessions
