I'm in the middle of a second flush on my cakes, I dunked them all over night and then rolled 2 of 6 in verm.. I see no benifit to this.
As a matter of fact, the 2 i rolled are the slowest to produce and have very few fruits. In general my second flush is not as good as my first but have found at least in my patch that dunking over night and double end casing them is the most benificial. I wont roll any more and have gave it considerable thought as to weather or not its even worth it to go for more than one flush...My fist flush was very fruitfull and as space is limited I have desided to toss them after first flush. It is far to easy to make new jars and have ready after the first flush then to mess with dunking and recasing. Just my 2 cents.

Max

I?ll stick with the roll if I?m gonna waste time doing cakes. It gives the shrooms more moisture to draw from and I don?t wind up with a bunch of skinny shrooms.

Look into doing grains, it?s both easier and faster then the PF tek and the rewards are much greater.

Magash, I have a friend that is using the PF tek. In that picture above, are you using that poor man's pod you designed? And what substrate are you using? WBS?

He wants to learn to use a different substrate after the PF cakes are completed. Where can he find more information about the substrate you used?

In that pic yes I'm using the pod. The cake is just plain BRF. The reason I say to do grains is that they are much faster.

The bottom layer of jars was just done the jars on top are 6 days old.

duh, dunking is definitely better if you know wtf your doing.  I will explain my obsersavtion.  You know that you add that layer of dry verm in your pf jars right?  when you birth them out some of it still sticks to the bottom. when i birthed my cakes, almost all the pins started to form at the bottom, very very few started anywhere else.  The first pins started at the bottom and all around the bottom, and they were fattest.

reason for this is, well, evidentally mycelium likes to initiate pins where there is moist verm rather than where there is just plain mycelium.  So by rolling in verm, pins will take off all around the cakes and be fat(as shown in magash's natorious pic to give rolling in verm props).  Its only 1 more contam risk, but if you dont fuck around, you will not get any contams and a hell of a lot more fruits.  Max1 must of just had a bad experience with it, or didnt maintain it properly, but man, i assure you, DUNK AND ROLL  or hell, dunk and roll and double end case if ya really want to, it only gives more moisture, so bigger and more fruits!

i thought you roll, and have a casing layer to minimize the damage to mycelia structures wile harvesting.

Actually that cake was rolled. I rinsed off the cake just before picking and redunking and at the last minute decided to take the pic. That was actually the first cake I used when I came up with the dunk and roll.

If you wanna do it right just case the cakes. Want a little more without casing cover the cakes in verm, and yes folks nothing says you can't dunk and roll in coco coir. I've done it and it works good.
