Those look yummy!
I have a 6qt shoebox in a fruiting chamber with MS ATL 7 pinning now and just spawned a couple of clones to 12qt tubs from my first MS grow yesterday. Would love to get a nice canopy like that from one of these two clones.
One was a sclerotia fruit and the other a nice late first flush cluster that was very aggressive on agar and grains. The cluster also started to stone up faster in the grainjar then the sclerotia fruit. So, hopefully, it will also put out a nice flush I can be proud to post some pictures of!

Some interesting morphology from a t4 MS Atl 7 grow inoculated about six weeks ago.

I'll probably clone that dense cluster.

Hollow stone up top. Probably won't clone it lol

I was told this is Tampanensis but looking at the label now I'm not sure. Is Mexicana A strain actually Tampanensis?

I believe so. There’s a couple types of tamp going around.

Sporeworks still lists A strain as P. Mexicana.
Was there recent genetic testing or something that changed its species classification to Tampenesis?

Not that recent, but Alan Rockefeller classifies Mexicana A strain as actually being Tampanensis.
Quoting myself from a year or two ago.

ReverendMyc said: This question comes up a lot in different forms on this thread. This is my understanding based on many posts in this forum including posts by Alan Rockefeller who is a respected member and expert in the field. This is a summary of what I have found in my searches. This has all been stated before spread across many posts. This is just a summary in one place.
There are two stone/sclerocia producing species of mushroom that are closely related to each other, but distinct genetic species. One is P. tampanensis the other is P. mexicana. Beside the DNA 5 bases that are different in the two species, the caps and sclerotia present different characteristics.
The ones found natively in USA are all P. tampanensis, with caps that are “lighter in color and more convex” and produce larger, lighter sclerotia. The ones found near Jalisco, Mexico are all P. mexicana with caps that are “darker, more striate and more campanulate” and produce smaller, darker stones.
There are some phenotype variations within the two species, and they have been “rediscovered” in different locations which has led to name attribution errors that have since been cleared up by DNA sequencing. Some have also been more domesticated and stabilized and given “variety” names but are not truly scientifically classified as different species or varieties.
All of the “varieties” below can produce sclerocia but genetics and environment still determine if they do or not. More DNA sequencings needs to be done to confirm all of the varieties, but the results so far strongly suggest that the large stone producers are all Tampanensis and the small stone producers are all Mexicana. I believe that at the time of this post ALT and Mexicana/A have yet to be sequenced.
P. tampanensis include: P. atlantis P. ALT P. ALT7 P. mexicana/A ***P. galindoi
P. mexicana include: P. jalisco P. chicon nindo P. rancho agosto P. galindoi ***See below
***Although the original mushroom found near Jalisco and named P. galindoi is genetically a P. mexicana, the variety that is currently domesticated and distributed as ALT Galindoi was originally found in Georgia, USA and is in fact P. tampanensis.

If I missed any “varieties” or there is newer information, let me know and I will update this post, so it is all in one place.

Mex A and mex B are OLD mexicana varieties. If you go to s.w. site they tell the story of a shroomery member collecting them IN MEXICO about 30 years ago. If you look s.w.'s photos and old grows of mex A they are clearly mexicana. The newer posts I'm seeing of "mex A" are clearly tamps. I'm not sure of the origin of this mix up. I know at one point someone was distributing "mex A" prints from obvious tamp fruits. I've also seen huge "mex A" stones from a european vendor that based on size and overall look appear to be tamps to my eyes. Maybe someone cloned them and is just naming them what they bought them as.
IME mexicana and tamps behave quite differently in culture and the fruits are easily distinguishable. Certainly more different than cubes compared to nats or pan cyan compared to tropicalis or cambs. Apparently Alan says mex. A are tamps? Did he test from spores directly from s.w. or just a sample he was told is mex.A?

That's the trouble that even Alan has mentioned. He gets a sample of what is being called one thing (for example Mex A) and he tests it to determine its genetic heritage. But that doesn't mean that everything out there being called Mex A is the same as the sample that he tested.
So the list above is from what has been tested AND his conclusion, like yours, that the stone and fruit phenos are reliable indicators of Tamp vs Mexicana confirmed by all of the tests that he has done. Larger, lighter colored stones are tamps and the fruit caps of "mexicana is darker, more striate and more campanulate" than tamps.

I am no Alan Rockefeller, so I don't claim to have the expertise to make a positive ID.
But I will take a stab. The dark caps look more like Mex. They appear to have the striate stripes though not as pronounced as they are in nature, but they also do seem to be splitting down lines that indicate the stripes. They are mostly too mature to see the bell shape/campanulate. But they look like Chicon Nindo to me. So I am guessing: Yes. What do I win?

I think you might need to view a wild specimen to confer what allen was talking about
This was a 100% wild grow

As well as this accidental grow

Now those I would guess tamp. It is amazing how different they look based on conditions.
No prize for me.

Well, I’ve grown these for the last seven years . I grow them in a Martha with lots of water, so I always get gallons of spore water at the bottom of my Martha. I collect and spread through all the local parts in my area they have been growing for the last three years in my neighborhood parks

I bought the spores from a very trusted vendor, but like Alan says they’re also mixed up not really sure which is which

Pulling the plug on Mexicana Vera Cruz today. Might be hard to see in the pic but we got stones for days haha. Got a few fruits, we’ll see how the spore & clone cultures do. Doing a run of varied small grows to figure why this one came out so wonky.
