Been experimenting a bit with grain dunking sclerotia jars. Had a couple of clones that came from millet and ran slow on rye, dunked them in tap water, drained well, and then shook to distribute moisture. Shook again 12 hours later and they started to stone up nicely.
Have another jar that I was running on rye, removed some larger stones for cloning. Left the rest of the stones in. Dunked and drained and shook as above.
All three jars recovered and stones are growing well.
My experiments with using shade cloth as a barrier between the casing and the grains hasn't been fruitful. Could be that the temps in my tub is to low now that it's mid winter but I think the stones don't want to fruit through the shadecloth.
It did work well as a bulk stone tek. The grains put up a lot a of stones under the shadecloth and the shadecloth makes it very easy to peal off the casing layer for harvesting. But just using a shadecloth without putting a casing on top also worked in this regard.
I'm not sure if I'll keep futzing with it as a fruiting/stone tek but may still use it for bulk stones.

A couple years ago, I got my wavy cap culture mixed up with my tamps, planted them in sawdust outside , and they produced some huge stones

Beautiful!
Which you guys know I did.
Here is the results.

So... Now I find myself wondering. Rip it all to bits, harvest the stones and put the leftovers in trays? Or just case it as is for fruit?
Thanks in advance. 794

I hate stones, if I were you, I would harvest all the stones, cut them up into dime size pieces, and mix with coir
You could do the same with all the rest of it, but it would probably contaminate

Otoh, some people prefer stones, especially fresh.
Dried they do taste like shit and I can't compare the trips as all my dry stones get micro dosed.

Forgive my ignorance, not super well versed in Mexicana.
I was hoping my wild vera cruz would fruit handily, but so far just shittons of stones.
So I can just use the stones as new spawn? And that wont just result in more stones from that cloning?

Yes, I have used only stones to fruit mushrooms they just need to be in good fruit and conditions to do that being open air and tons of moisture I keep mine about 80 to 82° with a humidifier every 15 minutes they love love love tons of water after they have started to fruit
Wash up your stones in cold water, chopped them up into dime size pieces, then put in hydrated coir and eye case with about an eighth of an inch of Pete Moss on top
I use the lasagna pans from Walmart. I keep the lids on for a week and by then puns are normally coming up.

Sorry but can I see pictures of a stones only as spawn fruiting? I do recognize that the stones store nutrients for future growth but I would be fascinated to see if the stones could really replace grain spawn in terms of yield.

Werd, yeah this was a similar tek, just only yielded stones so far. Been sitting my jcm and then in my martha (saw stones poking and thought maybe more fae would help. it did not.) Cased with 45/45/10 peat/verm/sand and ph adjusted. But I do use ammended coir, so maybe its an extra nutrition issue?
Regardless, Ill harvest the stones and respawn and hope for the best! Maybe with bare coir vs ammended.
Thanks!

I had leftover stones, and for the hell of it put inside this pot …I don’t have time to find the thread for you. If you want to look through my post, you will find it.

They didn't produce a ton but this small novelty grow was a few stones buried in coir.

Well, I figured I better pick this before. It breaks the Martha greenhouse from its weight. Each aluminum container takes up half of one of the shelves on the Martha. I’ve got another container right next to it just starting to pin
