So far, this is only the second fruit from this tub of Tamanensis (Pollock). Another tub fruited at the same time with twice the substrate has had three full flushes.
   Insert tiny hands joke.

Hey y'all! Just wanted to show some of my BRF cakes currently incubating. I saw a fantastic post about someone using PP5 deli containers to make cakes, and decided to give that a whirl. I figured the tray like shape might make them fruit better? Idk that was my thought process lol
I knocked them up with clean LC that I first cleaned on agar. The species is P. tampanensis

now on this container in the center, I checked the bottom and saw this:

now, I dont think this is contamination, but this is my first time working with stone producers. Is it common for them to stone this early?
Also. I am trying to get clones for prolific fruiting and stone production. I plan to take clones on agar from the fruits as well as the sclerotia from the cakes that perform the best. Is this the right move?
Also another side question: I know you can't eat the stones of the brf cakes because of verm. Can I possibly use a teaball or something and make some fresh sclerotia tea or something?
Thanks for the time guys and sorry for the bombardment of questions lol

Tea is fine. Vermiculite is not toxic. Just not fun to chew on. It's a form of mica.

Another first this week.

I was going to transfer to bulk but saw the start of stones... Noc'd with an agar wedge on Oct 26 (Shaken Nov 1) and Nov 6 (shaken Nov 9). Stones first seen on Nov 8.
Thanks SirPsycho for the print.

I'd still spawn them personally. The stones just keep growing bigger in bulk sub.
Beautiful!

Thanks people.
@ Nichrome. Noted, I am pasteurising some sub today. I will send them tomorrow sometime. Thanks.
On other varieties when breaking up the spawn, I rub the grains and spawn until almost no myc can be seen on the grains. Would that be harmful with the stones?
Thanks 794

are you saying that you do that while mixing with the sub? you are rubbing the spawn and sub together until the spawn is "bare"?

Saw some green on one of my stones this morning so harvested the bag early. Not even half a dose.
I think I'm sticking to jars.
Anyway, question.
Can sclerotia bruise green? I saw no other signs of trich and plan to toss the grains in a shoebox to see what they do.
But I'm kinda feeling like I may have freaked out over bruising.

I learned yesterday that sclerotia contain trace amounts of maois and will floresce under a UV light like harmaline.
Unfortunately my phone refuses to get a decent picture with my little UV flashlight shining on the jars.
But I got some work done today and added five more half gallon jars to my stash.
These are all ALT 7. Mostly an aggressive MS plate but there's a couple of clones in there. One sclerotia that came up with a fruit. I'm curious how it will do in jars but might go straight to bulk with it. And some fruit clusters that will go straight to bulk.
I also supplemented one of the MS jars with a gram of mannitol and a half gram of brewer's yeast. There's been studies on morels and apparently these two ingredients are preferred by morels for sclerotia formation. I've been curious if Tamps will like it so running this test jar as well as some plates with the same ingredients (swapped half my LME for mannitol on the plates).

Nine half gallon jars total.
It's going to be a happy new year for my friends and I.
The MS culture, about four weeks old.

All that yellow glows green under a UV light.

I'm going to try cloning some of my brightest stones. Even the small amount of maois in chocolate seems to have an effect for some people.
I wonder how concentrated they could get going from wild prints and isolating florescent gemetics.
edit: Also jealous of your camera. I took like ten pictures and they all came out like shit.
