These are from the south Carolina '22 tamps. Geminated fast and cleaned up easy. T2 going to grain soon.

Hey, So I'm new to the idea of growing sclerotia, but want to give it a go. I've grown cubes a good few times so I have a good idea of the grain spawn process. I wanted to use stones mostly as a way to just leave a jar on a shelf for a while, and harvest without going to bulk. Basically minimal labor and space method of growing actives.
Is that viable? Are the pure grain stones good to eat? Any other thoughts on that idea?

Absolutely doable exactly as you described.
I found that they create stones better on oats than wheat, but I don't think anyone else ever corroborated that observation. I have yet to let the jars sit with millet. I need to do that soon. I have a tub running right now that I will grab a stone clone from and get on that.

Wrap the stones in Subtropicalis leather before eating. Like little pigs in blankies.

Really though. What a combo.

Well I dove into stone growing and am excited with the results so far. I have five jars of ATL7/Tamps. The first one is at two months and the others are a few weeks behind. I use a mixture of red wheat berry and oats. I mix them together as they prep the same. Bulk wheat berries and oats are pretty cost effective.
Certainly love the set it and forget it method of growing these. No lighting, FAE or humidity requirements needed. Once I harvest some stones I'll attempt fruiting them for spore prints. Will post some pics when I'm further along.

Nice, it's my first time growing stones as well. I'm growing on barley. Also, spore to grain. As well as Panaeolus cincticulus, a truffle producer that needs some work compared to the Holland strains, but is capable of producing blue truffles and of course fruits which I am interested in for printing. The Mycelium looks so weird, there looks like there could be little stones throughout, on maybe its 3rd or 4th week, but I've never grown it before so I don't know. Going from spore to grain so I hope there's no contam. Think instead of using that single jar as a master grain I should just do a bunch of grain to grain and see if it remains clean?(assuming it just looks weird and is clean)

After I graduate from this first round of growing stones, I'll expand to bags. Read that G2G to bags is a bit tricky. Will need to experiment in my SAB. I used a spore syringe for the jars and got zero contams, maybe just lucky. Once I get some spore prints I'll start some agar. My agar work... needs work as I usually get contams. Blue truffles sound interesting

G2G to bags would be really hard to do in a SAB. Manipulating the bag will create a lot of air movement. Probably better to use a liquid inoculant so you don't have to open the bag. If your agar work needs work then LI or LC might be difficult, but I think it's still the better option for bags.

LC 100%.
If your agar/sterile work needs improvement then g2g or any other practice needs work too. Sterile work is sterile work.

Hi all. Bottom half of this jar looks messed up. Used agar to grain. Been about three weeks, my other jars look like the top half of this one. Should I pull the plug on this guy?

Thanks:)

Stone fruit jars can look funky but those don’t look good. Top part might stone up. Let’m sit…no harm in letting them hang out.

As far as I've read, potency is lacking in blue pearls, but that should be a fun experiment.

It will be a fun experiment. I've read the potency is about 3x that of the fruits, which I'm more inclined to believe more than reports of low potency. If you heard that directly from someone who grew them then bummer, because when I eat them if they're not mind-shatteringly potent then I am going to be a little bit discouraged with continuing with the project. But they're just jars sitting on the shelf, I'm sure to continue it no matter what. Do you know anything about Lipa's friend's find of the Bisporus? I was lucky enough to talk with him and he implied that when a buddy of his brought over some blue pearls it was one of the best experiences he ever had, potent too. Although this is all hearsay, and I won't really really know for certain without speculation whether they're potent or not until I have some myself to try. The complaint that I've heard, which is okay, cause it makes for conversation, is that the fruits themselves are weak; only compared to something like Cyans or Cambos or even Bispos. As well as the sclerocia get to the size of peas(which of course can be mended with genetic selection). Though since they're bluing as opposed to the tried and true "Truffle Producers", I wonder if they are more potent that regular stones.

I’ve always heard cincts were barely active, but it’s definitely all hearsay I don’t recall seeing anybody actually grow and eat confirmed cincts.
There was a theory that they look so similar to inactive species that people were foraging the wrong kind and that’s what caused the idea cincts are weak but who knows.

It'd be super interesting if the stones are stronger than the fruit since with tamps it isn't. In the thread though it seemed like people who'd managed to grow the blue pearls didn't have enough yield for a proper dose. Are you saying that there were Bisporus blue pearls? If so, I'd believe them being potent.
