yes and that's the reason people don't use verm for their stone grows (at least I don't^^)

Recently when I posted an older jar where I thought I was doing okay but not seeing fruit... Someone said it looked wrong and another said it looked more like a fully colonised oyster jar.
New jars

Your thoughts?
Thanks 794

Hey guys. So my tamp wasnโt the biggest producer this last year, but I did get this one massive piece of sclerotia in one of my jars. Decided to clone it: here is the result of the very first sclerotia slice to agar, and the next picture is how much I removed to go to a jar lol, first time doing that as well:

Rancho Agosto, outside in a pot. Hopefully I'll start seeing some spores in the next day or 2.

Theyโre so pretty:) what do you mean by seeing spores soon? I havenโt had the pleasure of growing fruiting bodies yet.

Thank you Mystic Merlin, they really are beautiful in person and look so delicate! I'm hoping the mushrooms will continue their life cycles and eventually produce spores for printing.

Hey guys, first time grower here. I would like your opinion on how this spawn look like to you:

This is 21 day after inoculation (PS tampanensis & galindoi). I bought LC and stored it for another 2 months on room temperature before inoculation. Temparature where spawn is stored ranges from 18ยฐC to 25ยฐC.
What do you think is this mold or mycelium?
Thanks in advance

21 days from LC is a long time. (If you meant MS I'd let it finish colonizing).
And the growth looks more like mold to me than any sclerotia species I've worked with (mex, tamps, and the atl 7 strain).
Final thought is I see no signs of stone production. Granted that won't often happen until after full colonization. But I have seen small stones in partially colonized jars and if ot had stones, we'd know for sure it's the right mycelium and not a mold.

That's a toss and restart. Mold is mycelium and you def. got something growing that isn't Mexicana.

Honestly this one is 100% experience. That mold is nearly identical to the mycelium you want, itโs very difficult to tell them apart. Yours could be myc mixed with mold even. I think the easiest way is that white mold usually has slightly thicker hairs and they tend to be a little crooked or curly.
Identifying bad spawn was by far the most difficult part of growing for me. After a while youโll just get a feel for it.

Did you soak your rye for 12-24 hrs? Can have a few endospores still present and a soak will ensure they germinate and then get nuked by the p.c ๐

Thanks for replies. @goatboy666 Yes I soaked rye for 20 hours, washed it good before soaking and since I don't have PC, steamed jars for 9 hours on stove, cooled them down through night and inoculated them in still air box next day. What about LC that was sitting on room temperature for more than 2 months? Also not sure how old was LC when I recieved it. Is there a way to "revive" old LC, since I'm unable to get Psilocybe Tampanensis spore prints here in EU

Dm me for a print. You may have better success pressure cooking your rye to 100% make sure everything that shouldnโt be in there gets destroyed. I find rye difficult to work with personally. Popcorn on the other hand is much easier but you will need to pressure cook it for sure.
