Hi Folks Some of you may recall in late winter early spring I had a Chicon Nindo grow going and the flush was entirely unremarkable but I noticed all these bulges on the surface and discovered it had produced a lot of stones. I then put those in a shoe box with some sand and a bit of potting soil for casing and sprinkled some alfalfa seeds on to sprout and creat a humid micro climate. Well I waited for ages and nothing happened. Then I threw it outside in the elements thinking the temperature swings and fresh air might wake them up - finally I gave up, I could see slugs and bugs crawling around in amongst the alfalfa. Well yesterday I dug in there and to my surprise I found the stones were still there! I thought they would be eaten up. Well I gave them a good wash and found the soil was teaming with springtails (which feast on mycelium) and I’m now giving them a good soak and a final rinse before I try again.
In the mean time another grow of Chicon Nindo seems to be progressing nicely. I hope to have a few prints before it is all done. No promises because fungus gnats are moving in… but if you’d like a print let me know by PM.

Spawned 4qts of mexicana that was aged for 7 months to 2 bricks of coir in an ez dial. 2 months later I harvested as I noticed a small spot of trich on one of the stones. 1625g wet.

That’s a monster especially for Mexicana.
Did it fruit at all?

you have any mexi running AKA?
I've got some on like T1 or something, just crawwwwling on agar atm.
I think I fucked up a batch of plates recently trying to make PDA with boiled potato water. Didn't really use any ratio or reasoning and I'm pretty sure the result was mostly water agar lol

Nope. I'm not sure if this culture can fruit at all. I ran 5 shoeboxes and 2 ez dials and all I get is stones. Admittedly I didn't case any of them because I'm having issues sourcing hydrated lime. This culture was made by cloning a truffle from store bought sclerotia in the Netherlands.

Nope, Mexicana has been my nemesis my whole cult career. I could never get good plates, or spawn. then after going through like 4 different prints I finally cloned a plate pin and got decent looking spawn. Ended up with a nice haul of stones but only two small fruits from a shoebox.
I have no idea what the problem is, it’s mostly been shitty looking myc and even when I finally got some decent growth it was very slow especially on grain. I really couldn’t believe a fruit clone only had two pins I thought I was finally all set

Thanks, and I agree. Wild grows are what excite me most. But definitely a long game.

Those are beautiful Elpico, I hope you'll post some more photos as they mature! About how long from spawn/inoculation of your substrate to this point? Any stones pressing against the container's wall?

Thanks Yoshi. These were spawned about a month ago, and I have had a few stones. I'll try to post photos of mature fruits. They're definitely looking meaty.

Whoops! I should not have offered before I printed! Oddly enough it seems like the entire flush of Chicon Nindo is sterile:
No spores coming from any of them. I only had that happen one time and it was a flush of Ps. Allenii
Anyway - for the few who asked, I’m keeping you in mind. I’m trying to fruit (again) from a bunch of CN stones I harvested this past spring.

If they fruit and IF they print I’ll get those spores out to you. I’ve never eaten these but the word is the are very special and have a unique pedigree.

I hear ya. I got pan fruits before and even though I only got two I have gotten absolutely nothing from Mexicana. Tampanensis is a lot easier to fruit. It's probably all in the culture. I may attempt to do something with the rancho agosto print I got again, but last time I tried I only grew mold.
