I think there may be a correlation between multi culture inoculations vs isolated strains but I could be wrong. Probably both. Some cultures just produce stones more prolifically.

W super clean culture and well prepped grain, i dont normally see stones before full colonization, but those colonize in like 4-7 days. Stone heavy iso makes stones by day 10 tho

In less than ideal conditions (shitty grain prep etc) ive seen stones before full colonization fairly regularly

Might not be causation, but its something ive observed

Well that’s good I was thinking maybe it was just my cultures. Cuz ever since my first and only multispore grow just to get spores for agar I haven’t had any stones in any jar since.

You prep your grains a bit drier than you would with cubes? Coffee in soak?

I prep em exactly the same as cubes (which is pretty dry)

No coffee, ive tried that but it didnt seem to make a big difference,  actually got better results without it

That isolate looks great! Hope it turns out nice stones/fruits for ya.

Current colonization of one of my Beulah tamp jars. Inoculated with spore syringe, going to try and isolate on agar after first go around.

Shook a different jar with a stone forming at 20% colonization as well. I use racehorse whole oats from the feed store.

Is that sand in the casing layer, or just vermiculite? I was reading about sand for tamps/mexicanas in other pages of the thread/other threads.

If so, have you found it works better with sand than without sand?

That’s definitely got some sand in there. Looks like some massive stones too.

It's a 50/50 mix of sand and jiffy seed starter.
I have only tried to fruit one other time...kinda half assed after harvesting stones and I didn't case then and only got one pin.

I spawned my jars to choir soon after they 100% colonized so they didn't have any stones formed yet...some thin brown starts but no real stones. Stones started bulking up after put into fruiting conditions
