Whats the consensus on shaking jars these days?

I know stonesun said he never shakes jars after losing some in his cultivation guide, but I read different things.

I have 10 tamp jars inoculated from agar colonising sloooooow......

I use LI and in 6 days the grains are completely covered in myc. In 2 weeks stones start to form.
The only time I shake is right after inoculation.

I don’t see why it would be a problem to shake. When you spawn them you have to break them up and then they recover so don’t see what difference in the jars would be.

These are my jars from March, gonna spawn them next month probably. I didn’t shake them because they seemed quite fast moving anyway.

Can I harvest the stones in front of the hood and spawn what’s left?

I harbest the stones and then spawn a few times. Never needed to use the flowhood. Why would you? It's just like spawning anything else. Except you pick you something from the spawn?

Go ahead and do it without the flowhood is my tips.

spawned/cased the grain on 6/10
re-cased with 50/50 sand/coir about a week ago I think

Huh. I haven’t gotten myc like that yet. Both mine never visibly colonized the casing besides one or two nickel sized spots. There’s gotta be some serious stones in there, I never could see mine on the tub either.

I'm just curious of the extent of your "failures".
I personally look at every lost jar/tub as a learning experience and a chance to improve next time.
I'm no expert but have a few grows to my name...

I've had 5 or 6 boxes from the same spore syringe stalling out on me, they do really well colonizing the spawn jars, but when I mix it with coir in the shoe boxes they colonize good for 1-2 weeks and then just stop.

I've learnt a lot and I wil try with another strain/spore syringe soon and see if I had a weak syringe:confused:

Have you tried a different source of grain?

Just spawn it stones and all to shoeboxes.  3 jars-2 shoeboxes easy.  What species?

Atl no7 if I recall...gonna try and fruit them like jcm’s pan set up so rekon I’ll be trying a shallower substrate in a lasagna tray and use a sand based casing. And I’ll probably try one au natural shoebox style

Jcms FC works amazing for mexicana as long as you give them tons of light. I have four clamp lamps instead of two. And I installed a pc fan with filter to run for 15mins every 3.5 hours

Yeah since I got lights going my Tamps seem to be shorter and thicker but that could just be the second flush looking different.

lol I got a pin growing off the cap of one too.

Are those Atl7?? They look very similar to my current tamps but the caps are bigger and lighter.

Does you guys know what makes tamp caps get the crimped look?

This second flush has been shorter and thicker and slightly bigger caps now that there’s lights but they’re still super wavy instead of normal caps.

All the tamps I’ve grown have had wavy caps. Not sure if it’s a strain specific or enviro thing but all looked like that. Those pics are atl7 tho.
