I've been obsessed with these stone producers. This is the biggest stone I've grown so far. The result of three quart jars of rgs allowed to grow for 5 month's. The tub is unmodified and uncased. I soaked the grain for 24 hours after I harvested the sclerotia before spawning to straight coco. Not so sure the fruits were happy with low fae.

:alphabrain: daaaamn, beautiful work!  Even with the lack of FAE they still gave an awesome yield

Nice job! It's cool you were able to fruit it w/o a casing layer too

Has anyone heard or tried to use 1 year old jars to get fruits seems like a wasted to toss it. Dk if maybe the mycelium has weakened over time. Prolly just try it anyways

I transferred a wedge of tampanensis to a ziploc container of grass seed and forgot about it for 3 years in my basement and just this last June started fruiting it and it actually put out fruits and prints. But yeah probably still a waste to let them sit for over a year, but definitely don't toss since you can still maybe get fruits.

i ve tried to clone some fresh "dragons dynamite" i got from the netherlands (hell yeah), fuckin strong those basterds, anyways, i tried to clone them but each (!) of the 6 agar plates has some weird contam, no white mycelium whatsoever. also, most of the contoms seem to be bacteria (coming from the truffle piece!) i cut the truffle, flame-sterilized the scalpel blade, let it cool by squirting a drip of iso on it, wait a few seconds, then cut / scrape some off the inner tissue and put it to agar. all done in a SAB, wearing gloves and surgical mask. cloning mex a and galindoi the same way was a piece of cake... are the truffles just badly contaminated and dead? should i try something like antibiotic agar? any other ideas maybe? i d love to grow some of those stones myself, the pieces i put in turned completly blue.

Don't cut open the truffle, squeeze it with your fingers to burst it open. Cutting into it will introduce contams that were on the surface.

Don't drip iso on your scalpel to cool it, just cut out your piece. The scalpel will cool in the tissue without completely killing the piece you're trying to take a sample of.

I just snap them in half.  Cool your blade in the agar of the receiving dish.

All of my truffle culture (and truffles) are from cloning one I got delivered from Amsterdam. I cut mine open with a scalpel so maybe I was more lucky than you.

The moral of the story is that when you do get it right, you can proliferate until you've got shit loads as I have

So I'm lookin for a little re-assurance from someone that's finished fruiting tamps. It seems like for quite a few days, my atl 7 fruits are nice, long, and the caps are starting to open much like Shomann's signature pic.

The thing is, some of them have been stuck like that a few days, nearly a week. I keep looking in the morning and at night expecting the caps to be fully open so I can print them. Something else I notice is my first fruits aren't growing as fast, and the slightly younger pins are catching up and getting to this semi-open state as-well.

Do they sometimes stall out at this point? Do I just need to be more patient? Do they kinda "sync up" and try to mature at the same time?

They need lots of FAE to fully mature.

alright, I'll finagle the dub tub. If it storms tonight I might have enough humidity to take it off entirely overnight.

Thank you.

:whathesaid:

Since that grow, I've had several mexicanae trays fully mature. The caps in the picture could've used more FAE to finish developing. I'm lucky they came out looking like they did looking back on it.

Jeez we've come along way as a community with fruiting mexicanae since I took that picture.

Thank you man. Maybe I'll change my tune after I try some of these fruits, but right now if I can just get a few for propagating and spreading around I'd be happy. I'm loving these truffles.

That's still a nice picture.

I get to bust my tamp print out so I can work on gettin a fruiting culture from it. My ATL#7 culture absolutely won't fruit for me. I've even put it on PDA to try and coax out any fruiting genetics, still nothin, but it gives me an average of 130g truffles per qt so no complaints there!

Well sadly, I did cock the upper tub sideways for more air flow, but a bunch of the fruits dried up over night. I'm guessing either the humidity dropped too low, or they were just too old to mature. Gonna give it one more day for the rest of the fruits to try and open.

I'm thinking slanting a clone culture might be the way to go forward for me.

This is my first ever stone producing variety. Does this germ plate look normal. The spot doesn't appear to be a contamination. But i could be wrong. But i dont think i am.
