I’m thinking about doing a whole mono tub for the huautla and a mini mono for the a-strain and shoeboxes for the rest. I’m going on vacation for a week so I figured all the spawn is like 98% so I’ll spawn it all before I leave and when I get back it should be near completion. I wanna fruit these in the simplest way possible for my first run mainly for the prints and if I’m successful and the prints are good enough I’ll do a giveaway only to people who will use them for the betterment of the community and reserching mexicana.
I've found grain to rgs to casing is quick, easy, and reliable for mexicana and subtrops.

Where did you get A-strain?
Haven't seen anyone grow that..well since I started growing1
Yeah, it hasn't been around for awhile. I think it fell out of favor because the B strain and Jalisco fruited much better and Alt7 produces nicer/larger stones.

Hey TCO, Have you tried this with other species? It would certainly be easier than prepping agar for mycelial storage in distilled water.

No, mexicana "A" IS ps. mexicana NOT ps.tampanensis. If you search back on the history and location data for this variety it is clearly mexicana. Sporeworks is the source of this variety. Check their site and compare their mex A to what is being offered here now. The confusion comes in because a few years ago someone (I believe it was the member celestialexplorer) grew a mislabeled print and distributed those genetics as mex A. Others may have also mistakenly distributed them. If you look at fruitings of mex A prior to afew years ago you will clearly see that they are very different from what is being distributed as mex A today. The sister variety of mex A is mex B. They were sourced from the same genetics and again are clearly Mexicana.

Mex A and mex B are OLD mexicana varieties. If you go to s.w. site they tell the story of a shroomery member collecting them IN MEXICO about 30 years ago. If you look s.w.'s photos and old grows of mex A they are clearly mexicana. The newer posts I'm seeing of "mex A" are clearly tamps. I'm not sure of the origin of this mix up. I know at one point someone was distributing "mex A" prints from obvious tamp fruits. I've also seen huge "mex A" stones from a european vendor that based on size and overall look appear to be tamps to my eyes. Maybe someone cloned them and is just naming them what they bought them as.
IME mexicana and tamps behave quite differently in culture and the fruits are easily distinguishable. Certainly more different than cubes compared to nats or pan cyan compared to tropicalis or cambs. Apparently Alan says mex. A are tamps? Did he test from spores directly from s.w. or just a sample he was told is mex.A?

Cool new variety elpico! Were the Rancho Agosto easier to work with initially?

Great choice! That would be my first pick as well. Not so much for stones but great for fruiting.
