Wow Hindsight, that tub is thick!!!
Here is "A" strain, outside, under shade cloth, in a trashcan with drain holes and pea gravel in the bottom. Healthy subs with compost under them, soil covering the rest, cased with sand, cacti soil, some RGS and on automatic mist irrigation. Im excited but hopefully it'll start filling in more of the surface. I'd even take a fairy ring of them!
I'll try taking some clones.

I dumped some oats and barley on top of 'Chicon Nindo' agar 10 days ago. It is taking its time with colonization, too busy getting stoned.

Thank you Faht! I do 1/4 pint no-pour agar, transfer part of it to 1/4 pint of grain and dump a 2nd jar of grain on the remaining agar. A 2fer!
Then I can g2g or even go to bulk.

I was trying to clean up agar as you are describing but using sterilized sawdust. The hope was the lack of nutrients would allow the mycelium to expand through the sawdust and emerge clean on the other side.

Seldom Seen, your beautiful photo brings up something I've been thinking about with my outdoor grows, is the grass worth it? For me, harvesting with grass is kind of a pain. How are you going to harvest your incredible cluster?

I am more than halfway through this thread and its a wealth of information. Now, hopefully my question hasn't already been answered in the threads I have yet to read
I have 2 plates of tamps that are showing pretty decent growth that I plan to put on rye grass seed. I am (loosely) following RR's post on this of a rate of 2:1 Seed to diluted java, let em sit for a couple of hours before PC'ing them.
They are still in the 'sitting and soaking' stage but the jars still look incredibly wet. My oat process is overnight soak and possibly even an overnight drain before loading them. (And those are nice and hydrated and dry)
Should I drain off some of the liquid before PC (or even let them drain and dry for a bit?) Or is this normal for grass seed prep because stones like more moisture content? Thx!
If you are using annual rye grass seed, by volume, it is 2:1 (seed:water) some like a heavy 2 to a light 1. Add a pinch of gypsum or prepare to shake your arm off. No need to soak, just mix and PC. Some think coffee is optional for stones, I don't use it personally. I haven't tried soaking ARGS myself so I can only say it looks wet when first mixed, before PC. It looks a little wet after the PC before the shake.
If you are using perennial RGS, it is more like 1 Tbsp:9 ml water.
Good luck
BTW, you can no-prep your oats, 1Tbsp:10ml. 2 Tbsp:20ml fills a 1/4pint with room to shake.

For a quart, 1 1/3C rye + 200ml water, PC 90min, no prep for the win!

What is the difference between Mexicana 'Chicon Nindo' and 'Huatla de Jimenez'? It seems like they are both from the same area?

I have noticed the same thing with prints. Maybe because of sclerotia preserving the genetics, the mush has less need for spores that last?
Thankfully, I have a couple bags of stones for CN & HdJ or else I would have lost those genetics.

I have CN and Huatla de Jimenez in bags of substrate that are almost a year old. I hope to pull a couple stones from each ->agar and fruit the rest of the bags if lucky. Unfortunately, my prints don't work anymore so hopefully this goes smoothly. If I am lucky, I'll back them up in distilled water, make dried grains and prints to share.

I have Rancho on a micro BRF/verm cake that is making small stones. Supposedly PDA is good for plate stones.

I'm pretty sure I've read it in this giant thread. I use MEA, hopefully somebody with personal experience will chime in.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of stones you get, eventually.
