It's funny I came upon this thread today of all days as I just finished pulling some stones. All stones were grown in whole brown rice. Chicon Nindo was fruited in cased hpoo/verm/coffee/gypsum mix.
Tampanensis: (148.8 grams wet)

Galindoi ATL#7: (155.0 grams wet)

Mexicana - Chicon Nindo: (130.1 grams wet)

Chicon Nindo fruiting:

Happy Philosophizing everyone.

It's completely gone after a few hours in the dehydrator but I want to be sure I'm not eating bacteria.

I don't see many people try and dry their stones though. They keep so well in the fridge and in the jars themselves. Plus when they're dry, they're like little rocks.
I dried mine because RR has stated in the past to dry them as soon as possible if you don't plan on using them right away.
I plan on grinding them up before consumption.

Maybe I'll have to invest in a nut chopper or something. Thanks for the heads up.

No wonder my Chicon Nindo only produced a few fruits. I made a modified hpoo substrate but it had grass seed in it.
Good information. Now I'm glad I didn't try to spawn to hpoo and just cased the leftover whole brown rice that I just harvested
Don't know why I was thinking they were dung lovers.

My Chicon was just an experiment. I had some leftover substrate so I decided to put it into a Ziplock container (the medium sized ones with the screw on lids) and innoced with liquid innoculant. Colonization was normal speed.
Then I cased with jiffy mix.
I just thought it didn't do too great because I had an outbreak of fungus gnats.
I got about 10 fruits from it though.

I'm liking the looks of tampanensis.

BTW.....Stonesun is correct. These are just as easy as cubes so keep it up and you'll get fruits.

Wow...I can't believe this worked.
This is from a 5 year old print of ps. galindoi. I didn't think it would work because after a week or 2 I saw no growth.
So, I asked for a print from above, only to check on my experiment and low and behold this is what I found.

So, again J. Jack Flash, I don't need the print but thanks for the generous offer.

Have you tried cactus mix right out 8f the bag?
It works perfectly and no need for adjusting.

I've finally been able to upload my picture to this group. I knew I was going away for 2 weeks so I put an agar wedge to some whole brown rice. This is the wild tampanensis going around from doc. This species just wants to grow stones....look at this after only 16 days.

The whole jar is just one big stone. lol.

Have you tried whole brown rice? Most people don't like it because it clumps and you can't really shake it. In my experience, they grow so fast you don't need to shake. This was 16 days from agar wedge inoculation.

I cook it like it says on the package. For 2 quart jars, I use 1 1/2 cups rice, 1 1/2 cups water and 1 1/2 cups coffee. Cook as normal. I rinse them after cooking so they aren't as sticky (they are still pretty sticky but not as bad).
Fill jars and pc.

I'm not an expert but out of tamps, galindoi, atl, and chicon nindo they have all produced stones. Not as extreme as the wild tamps pictured above, but never a dud jar. Also, I am an advocate of using glass and not plastic. IME the glass makes better stones.

I'll be posting a giveaway in the market place within the month.
I have the wild tamps going side by side with Jake's galindoi.
We'll see if there's any macroscopic differences.

Ok. Time to post my results of the tamp vs galindoi experiment.
On the left side are the tamps (red pin heads).

On the right...galindoi (grey/brown/red caps)

Here they are side-by-side at maturity:

Conclusion:
Tamps and Mexicana (Galindoi) are close as a species but differ macroscopically in cap color until mature. Then it's hard to tell them apart IMO.
