When you say it got because you did it with cold water, do you mean that literally the cold water was the problem? Or because you didn't use hot water so no sort of sterilization happened?

That's pretty good to know, I haven't seen that done anywhere, pretty cool dude. Did you use the cold water as a test, or did you expect that result?

Well you got some fruits out of it, and you learned some pretty valuable info, I'd call it a win.

Only asking for my own personal knowledge, but in your second picture those fruits have very small caps and look to be "reaching" like cubes that are hungry for FAE, is that the case here or is that just typical Tamp fruits? The stalks don't seem to be too much on the skinny side so maybe the caps will fatten up with age?

I've been banished from the Panaeolus thread (for good reason I suppose)

Got these little freaks growing. They make me uncomfortable with their resemblance to antenna.

They just grow so slowly and look so creepy. I turn them every few days and they get this crazy curvature to them. I like it and I don't. They are so phototropic it's scary

I think that for fruiting you would want to go with something a little bit thinner, I consider them to be more like Pans but that's only because I tried to grow pans and got Tamps instead. So I've personally determined that Tamps will fruit in the same environment that Pans enjoy. Some pics cuz I haven't posted them in a while. All the ones in the big one died. I don't want to talk about it.

Those stones that are cracking through the casing are getting really big. It's not putting out any more fruits but I'm just gonna let those stones grow.
1 1/2" sub with just enough casing to cover the mycelium. The coir casings never fruited but are growing more stones

I think in his most recent post he was getting about 300g per jar of galindoi, less from some of the others.

Tamp fruits have a lot more flavor wet, and it's an excessively bad flavor. It's pretty easy to just swallow the mushrooms whole once they are dry cuz they're just like little spaghettis but you have to eat a thousand of them

So just a dump right now but maybe I'll organize it. This is the harvest from all the little containers I've had lying around since January/February, about 9 in total, equal to about 4-5q of spawn.
The final harvest was 350g fresh. The big subs were really full, didn't have time to weigh them individually or anything but they all seemed about equal.
Overall I'm pretty happy with this species that was supposed to be pans. I got a nice handful of fruits and a bunch of stones, it's been fun.

I got no fruits after my first batch. I honestly neglected it for a very long time, I misted it at least once a day but it was always super dry. I noticed that a poly had fallen out so I think that was contributing. Produced some lovely stones but no prints unfortunately sorry mate.
I do think you have something coming in the mail from me however.

Got some "gando" of my own
These were apparently both inoculated on valentines day. Must've been an exciting day

This one was done in January. Got some bigguns
though it was labelled "large stone" so maybe that explains it.

It wasn't him that actually reclassified it, Dr Guzman's daughter and colleagues apparently has put them in all the Mexicanae species. So it would be Psilocybe mexicana var. galindoi similar to Ps cubensis var. [whatever] or Lophophora williamsii var. Texana (peyote)
in most cases the varieties are not necessarily accepted by most classification journals or whatever.
But clearly there is a real difference, munch just posted how different his Stropharia vs Tex Orange Cap were, the same species but with clear varietal differences.
The Galindoi and Tampanensis are both clearly different, visually identifiable without a scope, the galindoi are well known to produce more sclerotia than the tamp.
Apparently williamsii var Big Bend is more susceptible to lower temperatures than other varieties of peyote, since it comes from the northern most part of it's natural habitat.
So to say that all those names are BS is really oversimplification. While it's not mostly accepted in science, there is clear indication that the variety of the species does have some effect.

Munch and I disagree on this, but I think that (at least for my Tamps) the stones do eat the grains.
When I was cleaning mine off there were so many half devoured oats and many hulls that were wrapped around the stone, like they had once been encompassing an oat that was devoured. If you open the stone up it's just pure myc so it happens really quick, the half oats that I found were literally half oats and half mycelium, there wasn't any evidence of an interim period, when it decides to digest and oat it becomes anologous with it quite rapidly.

that would be truly funny if thats all it is and I'm letting the size of the golf ball cloud my judgement
And the reason I think that is because the pin is too fat to be a stone producer fruit, they are all skinny (except for the recent pictures mr fox posted, but he's clearly doing something amazing) and don't have the universal veil.
As well as the stones grow inside the substrate, and while they will pop their heads out, that one is clearly growing from the outside of the sub

So OttO, if you don't mind, what is your opinion on this matter
do you find the sclerotia to ingest the grains at all? I noticed that your stones made from sorghum (which is basically a round ball) are much more rounded and look more like little spheres attached to each other, whereas your stones made from wheat/oats/rye (can't remember) Looked more standard and had the oblong connections.
To me, stones look like pieces of grains that have been fused together and devoured, but all the TCs disagree with me. Your post makes me feel even more strongly because the difference between the two actually looks like round connections vs oblong connections - round (sorghum) grains vs oblong (wheat) grains

Hey! That's what I was saying! With oats at least for me, they definitely get really entangled in the stone and hard to clean up. I imagine oats and wheat are the same in this regard
