Did you inject with spores? It looks kinda contaminated, although I have this one jar that's producing stones right now that the mycelium looks like that.
Did you shake the jar recently?
yeah I had this one jar full of grey stuff. Procrastinated when it came to dumping it out, since I was sure it was a contam. But then when I went to finally dump it out I saw there were tons of sclerotia forming
I desire an isolate that is as pure bright white as I can get it.

is it true that spawning grains to bulk substrates promotes stone production? Like when your trays are done fruiting do you crumble them up and find a nice second harvest of stones inside?

I actually just spawned a tub speciffically for the stones i get out of them, i get tons of them and the majority of them are pretty huge.
I have one that is 6 grams dry on its own, there were bigger ones, but they got eaten
hot damn! What are we doing storing quart jars on a shelf for months to get big stones when we could just spawn to bulk and let it consolidate without fruiting it?
and then when you do decide its time to fruit it, the switch would be simple.
Those sound like some huge freakin stones...or should I say rocks.

So I have a mexicana quart jar that I started october 14th. I noticed today that it has started to develop some green mold near the top.
Any advice beyond cut out the mold and save what stones I can? Some of them look decently big. I doubt the stones will be any good for inoculating anything, but for eating they should be fine.
Or Maybe I'll let them duke it out in there. Had a cubensis grass seed petri win what seemed like an impossible battle against some green mold recently.

Yeah I use SFD's. I had actually added a casing in open air after it had been 100% colonized for a while.
I thought it was cool after things were colonized.

Any pictures of the jar during colonization?
Sorry no pics, though it did look awfully gray. I was actually planning on throwing it out but when I saw stones forming decided to keep it. Can't remember if I even pasteurized the casing. I had found an RR quote recently that claimed unpasteurized casings works. RR even said it works better than pasteurized casing
Also I used biochar casing. Its essentially charcoal inoculated with compost microbes. (a fairly stupid decision looking back. I mean, adding unknown foreign microbes to casing, fucking genius ) Though using biochar free of microbes may be interesting..
But, just to clarify, I wasn't posting in hopes of finding out why it contammed. I had been asking for advice as to where to go from here. The mold is coming in at the top of the jar so getting some clean myc out of their probably isn't an option.

got some nice and clean cultures of both tampensis and mexicana
Gonna put some on slants and take the remaining plates to grains. All I have right now is grass seed and WBS but I figure that's fine for G2G masters.
Or maybe I should skip the master grains and just make some liquid innoculant with a plate...
don't let the thread die

I'll post a pic in a bit, but do you guys think they'll stay good like this?
thats fucking cool. What better way to store produce than letting it stay alive? is the baggie sealed/closed? Perhaps they will continue to age as well, though without any nutrients its
give it some nutrient rich water maybe. compost tea maybe..I wonder how that would work in general.

They will mold eventually and they will lose potancy the longer they sit around. I wouldn't eat fresh stones that had been in a bag in the closet for any real length of time.
In the past year I had stones in the fridge for months. Never noticed potency drop or any other sign of degradation. They are still alive. And last a long time. I think they act similar to a culture vial. But its just this one year expert nice really. Also if u have a dirty fridge that will certainly speeds up degradation
maybe store stones in distilled water like the long term storage tek in my sig

So Achillita, I'm curious as to what happened with those stones you were storing at room temp.

I wonder why. Lack of new nutes making them weak/more susceptible? Nothing soil-like surrounding them?

I was just curious if it would be possible to store them live. Fulfill some minimum requirement for them to stay dormant but alive.
I mean they would just continue living indefinitely if still in a substrate no? Do we know of age limits?

went with 3.5 inches in the end, was hoping the depth would encourage more stones like you said. Its weird, neither violet or stonesuns tek even mentions sub depth.
There were already lots of little "stone pins" in the grain jars so I'm hopeful. Would be my first time with something other than cubes Thanks for the luck!
