If I were rich and lived in California I'd leave.

some people are being asked to pay for the services they use?

... and they'd rather give people wealthier than them a tax hike to foot the bill instead and avoid paying for the services?

scandalous   !

Yep - the handicapped being driven into poverty while the rich buy themselves another yacht.

I'd call that scandalous

Or perhaps some of those earning $250,000 are actually aware that they live in a society and should therefore contribute fairly to it.

contributing fairly to society means giving and recieving through voluntary transactions. the stuff you take is equal to the stuff you make. theft certainly doesn't fall under "contributing fairly to society."

if the rich, through their own productive efforts, are capable of paying someone to build a yacht for them, why is it anyone else's business than theirs and the shipbuilder's? how does it harm people depending on state-provided health care and college tuition? how does it drive anyone into poverty? (and an old, unanswered question... WHO is doing the driving?)

maybe there is some actual economic sense to this. you ever think of that? the state of california can't exactly afford to continue being everyone's nanny.

And if the rich don't want to give voluntary?

they do, that's how you get rich. bill gates is rich because he invented something which makes life better for untold millions of people.

unless you are stealing, everything you own is something you either produced or acquired by trading something you produced.

I think the point you're missing is it will carry on being nanny to the rich.

He ran on "NO NEW TAXES." Don't you understand that?

So he is creating new, minor FEES to collect revenue instead. I'm not saying I like his ideas or him, because I don't, but you guys are spinning this into something greater than it is, when in fact he is just doing what he always claimed he would.

least of all to the plutocracy...

how does it drive anyone into poverty?

one way is by denying children a decent education because of lack of funds...with schools in such shit shape..precisely because of attitudes similar to yours..theres NFW these kids will finish school smart enough to build a yacht..or do anything else besides flip burgers...and thats just the tip of the iceberg too.. there are spiraling effects ..like so many unskilled workers and low-paying jobs will reduce overall demand..which in turn creates more unemployment..underemployment..and poverty...
