Indoor/Outdoor ?
    #2252390 - 01/19/04 11:59 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Im sorry if this has been asked a million times before, but i was wondering why it is so hard to grow mushrooms inside if the enviroment isnt sterile, while they grow outdoors on their own without any of the sterilization ect...Why is this?If there is not a simple answer,i dont mind reading it for myself,i just am not sure where to find the answer.any answer or links are appreciated.

from what ive read its because there are so much more molds and bacteria and shit inside then is natural, like go shake a carpet and look at all the crap that pours out. From what i understand the outside is all naturally balanced, and while it may seem like they grow easier or whatever its just because there's more room/more spores. I could be wrong, but thats my understanding from what i've read

This would be better suited for the cultivation forum.
From my understanding outdoors there some kinds of microbes(I forget what it exactlly is) that naturaly acure and keep mold and bacteria from destroying and overtaking the substrate. I'm sure with a search you can find a much better detailed and accurate explenation. I'm sure many here can explain it better also.
My cultivation knowlege is rusty since I don't grow.

Also to consider-
when in a farmer's field, you usually only find some cow patties with some shroomies.

The sterilization and other precautions when growing on your own are to maximize growth, since you probably don't have a whole farmer's field sized room with lots of random cow patties

if you look for cyanescnes in the bush its very frustrating. most places are totally bare or have only other shrooms. When you find a good place they are all over. Conditions have to be perfect...but when they are they will flourish.

In mother nature, 0.00002% of all land has mushrooms growing on it. (probly less)

In your substrate, you want 100% myco colonization.

Its all about ratio's. You're not putting it up to chance, you want guaranteed success. As said above, its all about the perfect conditions.

You are trying to emulate that 0.00002% of natural land.

...and yeah, it also has to do with natural mold balance taken care of by mother nature, which doesn't occur inside as stated.

the uv light that the sun gives off also id a type of sterilization. Its like when you put a peice of bread inside and then one outside which one will mold?

Rune said it best. You want to insure that your substrate is utilised by only mushroom growth to ensure absolute success. Nature just throws the dice and lets come what may.

I'm pretty sure it's the natural enzymes in the soil. They keep the molds under control somehow.
