Explosives

I used to be a pyromaniac. I had a stockpile of 16 pounds of blackpowder, built rockets and explosive charges, and watched as fireballs towered over my house. Looking back on it, I realize I used explosives the same way I use psychedelics; to show me, in brilliant and blinding moments, the incomprehensible power of the universe and the human brain.
In my case, I believe the adrenaline and dopamine produced by the tremendous excitement acted much like a very powerful stimulant. Further, brushes with death (which is why you don't play with fire...) also gave me perspective on the transient nature of life.
Just my two cents.

I've decided not to fuck around with making explosives. Not worth the risk of missing limbs for the next 60 years. You can meditate to achieve the same appreciation for the universe.
Riding a motorcycle however... Sign me up

I agree. I vastly prefer psychedelics to explosives. I learned my lesson when a pound of black powder went up in my hand.

Agreed. Getting hit by a car is a lot worse than standing too close to a relatively small explosion. Source: experience.
I have my hand, but barely. It was in its cardboard container, which mostly vented out the top (made of metal, which blew off and flew 30 feet). The container saved my hand from the brunt of it. Still had burns all up my forearm.

Not likely to help much. Pretty much everyone knows the inherent dangers, the problem is they assume they're smart enough to "not be stupid and fuck up". This is one of those things people generally only learn the hard way, some are lucky to not really pay that heavy of a price for the knowledge, some pay more. Almost all of them go "that'll never happen to me because xxxxx" if you try to tell them this can happen to anyone.
Anyone who legitimately makes stuff like that and blows it up, is going to look at the thread, say he's a dumbass and how they're smarter than that, and tell you how they are being careful.

With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

I was a pyro kid, I made all sorts of fireworks, from fountains to rockets to salutes. An old apothecary would question me about what I needed for an whether I understood the fundamentals and since I did, he hooked me up bigtime. nitrates, chlorate, permanganate, sulfur aluminum powder, zinc powder, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, dichromate, phenol, sodium metal, all the good stuff a pyro & chem boy could want.
My expertise was making small, typically 10 grams, paper salutes that went off by low velocity detonation. The kraft paper salute casings were just flimsy enough that the shockwave could rip through it and inertia kept it together just long enough for it to detonate. Of course the explosion of them was a thrill, though comparable in noise to a strongly confined flash powder salute of the same weight so nothing too outrageous, but the biggest thrill was perfecting the design, achieving a detonation without a primary explosive but by clever means and making the casing elegantly flimsy to avoid shrapnel flying off at a mile a second. It was fireworks for me, I even made casings with three colors of parallell wound paper so that you'd get this cloud of multicolored paper shreds in the daytime.
If it had been flashpowder I might have gotten maimed but that was the thing, the stuff merely burnt calmly touched by a flame, only a significant shockwave would set it of so it was quite safe. That was the point, doing it in a way that was safe. Young as I was I designed those things, not haphazard construction
There was a growing excitement up to the moment of the explosion and when it went off I'd get this jolt of excitement shooting through me, it wasnt sexual but it was a thrill for sure.
All this happened mostly between ages 10-14. Happy times.
Wouldnt do it again but for me it was awesome. No regrets.

I was a pyro until i blew up my arm with a model rocket engine inside of a BBQ grill.I decided not to build the rocket and instead burn the engine. When i opened said grill, the engine ignited and shot at my arm then exploded. Fun times

One time i made a bottle rocket from a model rocket engine that i duck taped to a chop stick.
Worked just like a bottle rocket! Was pretty cool.
at the height of my firework career, i shot fireworks out of my ABS rocket-launcher styled potato launcher that ran off MAPP gas.
Good times

Lol. That's called a mortar... Just uses a non-conventional lift charge. Filling a shell with flash and moth balls results in a crazy fireball. Add an impact fuse and tail to point it nose first.... fun times.

XD nice. I think that if I had that much, I'd basically go find an old well (I have one in my back yard, 20 meters deep, a meter across) and pour a couple gallons of gasoline into it, and lower the charge contained in a pipe, with an electronic fuse. Retire to a safe distance. ka-BOOM. Should make an insane vertically channeled blast. It would be vital to have a bunker capable of surviving an impact from a 200 pound rock or concrete at several hundred miles per hour. Or you could just run like hell. But let's not.

I just used to like to blow stuff up. When I was a kid, we had real m-80's and quarter sticks. My best friend's grandfather owned a construction company and he had a whole wooden case of them....We did dumb shit like blowing up mailboxes and fence posts using cigarette fuses. Also made smoke bombs out of saltpeter and sugar. One game my stupid ass friend and I would play was to stick a quarter stick in a pile of bricks...light the fuse and run...it would shower debris for about 25 yards.....ahhh ...good times lol

It's an excellent film.
Watched it again recently.
Helped me come to terms with the people I have hurt including myself. I apologized to who I still could.

Oh yeah, now I remember...that was pretty sad. We blew them up at night partly to avoid such tragedies and partly to not be seen. lol...But, when I saw that movie...it really hit home what could have happened....just kids doing dumb stuff.
