Alabama Brings Back Jim Crow

"The state of Alabama has been accused of bringing back Jim Crow for closing 31 driver’s licenses offices in the state -- including all the offices in counties where African Americans make up more than 75 percent of the registered voters -- which critics say will further disenfranchise minority voters in a state that requires government-issued photo IDs at the ballot box." -- http://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/alabama-voter-id-dmv

Sweet!
The Jim Crows were my favorite Disney characters, they had me cracking up when they were cutting it up with Dumbo.

OMG... they've also closed centers in places that are predominantly white which further disenfranchises white voters in the state, it's reverse jim crow all over again
the centers that were closed, the busiest served less than 2000 people in 2014, of course if you'd like to see those centers stay open and the ones that will be closing on January 1st, you should immediately contact the state of alabama and let them know you're willing to pay the cost. in the mean time all of those registered voters in rural areas can renew their license online or pop on down to the courthouse in their county and get a FREE voter ID card

They are eliminating the use of i.d.s that minorities already have and requiring i.d.s that many don't have (compared to whites), And they passed that legislation knowing that they didn't have the funding to keep the DMV offices open.
(More from the article): "The backlash Alabama is now facing reflects the state’s long history of blocking African Americans access to the polls, from 1965’s Selma protests that ushered in the Voting Rights Act in the first place to the 2013 Supreme Court decision in the Shelby County case that gutted a key provision of it.
The latest episode involves Alabama’s widely criticized voter ID law colliding with a broke government that can’t fund basic services. State officials are now on the defensive, denying that the closures -- many of them in counties in what is known as Alabama’s “Black Belt” -- will make it harder for African Americans to vote.....
The law -- which Merrill, then a state representtive, voted for in 2011 -- tightened voter ID requirements already on Alabama’s books by requiring a government-issued photo ID and excluding the non-photo forms, like a Social Security card, that were previously accepted. Under the new law, which only went into effect in 2014, only a handful of forms of ID, including driver’s licenses, meet the requirements.
Civil rights groups vehemently opposed the legislation, noting that these IDs are harder to obtain for minorities, who among other things are more reliant on public transportation. A state analysis showed that 500,000 registered voters lacked a driver’s licenses around the time the law was being put into effect. "

"noting that ID's are harder to obtain for minorities"
Sounds like a racist statement, are they LESS capable of getting a valid ID?

I think the problem is that they either can't or don't like to sit in line to get a state ID.

what makes an ID harder to obtain for minorities, arent they required to recieve government benefits? dont you need some sort of photo ID to drive the hooptie/whip isnt ID required to buy some ripple or malt liquor?
maybe there's some sort of black privileged we're unaware of that allows minorities to drive, get benefits, cash checks and buy alcohol without having ID and now they're trying to extend it to voting while the white people are forced to carry ID
