Are these gymnopilus luteofolius?
    #22506212 - 11/10/15 05:29 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

I came home after being gone for two weeks. I found these guys growing right out of my house.
Cap was yellow but is more of a red color now. It looks scaly like a cats tongue. The gills are pale yellow with rust colored spots from the spores. There is a veil remnant on the stem that has collected rust orange spores. There are dark spots where the rain has bruised it.

I'm really thinking these are gymnopilus luteofolius. Thank you for your thoughts.

Consider Gymnopilus thiersii since you are in the west and they are probably on conifer wood.

They are hallucinogenic, but you shouldn't eat them because the wood is likely treated with heavy metals to deter fungi.

Thanks Alan. I won't eat them. They look kind of sickly anyway. Does it change the ID that it was a manufactured home?

No.  You could clone it to agar or use the spores to grow some more that aren't likely contaminated however.
