Yes a SAB is a good addition to your equipment. It will help you avoid some nasty surprises. That said I did have success inoculating in open air (both grains and brf) but doing it in a SAB means u don't have to inoculate ninja style.(tilting jars, peeling back tyvek just enough and being faster overall) last batch I inoculated this way I only had 3 contams out of 26 but I still wouldnt reccomend it to someone just starting out.
also I found micropore to be a poor candidate for sufficient GE. it gets the job done but when I switched to tyvek colonisation was noticeably faster.
Edit: if a SAB is something you cant get your hands on soon remember to inject through the micropore and have a piece ready to put over the existing piece as soon as you pull syringe out. The less time the hole is exposed the less chance some shit will get inside

How long should it take from the time pins are clearly visible?

time from what? from spawning, full colonization? or from pins appear and until they are mature? contamination is a major pinning trigger, sets them into survival mode. the pins often look very sad tho and need good conditions to be able to mature.

If you see any green, toss it immediately, or you'll risk getting mold spores all over the place.

I think what mushpunx means is why is the colonised sub resting on verm in a monotub?
If I were to do that cake style I would have built a SGFC and used perlite instead of verm with foil between the perlite and the cake.
Edit: also the top barely pinned because the sides is where there is most evaporation and FAE. notice how they are growing near the hole?

On second inspection of the thread I see you did wbs spawned to 1:3 coir. You then fruited the substrate as a cake rather than a bulk monotub. There's nothing wrong with that except you didn't follow a PF style tek while doing it. As previously stated you should have done a SGFC and used perlite instead of verm. Further you should have sprinkled some verm on the substrate so it will hold a good microclimate which in turn helps with pinning. Im not sure if you did but it's also a good idea to fill jar of grain with water for a few minutes prior to spawning. This way grains are already well hydrated (shrooms need a lot of water since its 90%of their weight). Also the substrate should not be touching the perlite or in your case the verm. At least verm doesn't hold as much water as perlite or it would have probably damaged the cake already.
All in all you seem to be having good results. Try doing a regular monotub next time I think it's much better for grains. Having 4 inches of substrate should give you optimal results. Goodluck and have fun tripping balls
