I was wondering I someone could help me please I've spent a few years looking for psilocybe cyans, today I past a mulchy flower bed they just added to my town centre and found these , they look so similar and the tops and stalks are turning blue. Is it worth picking the rest and even trying to collect some the wood chips? Thank you in advance.

Yehh they are Psilocybe cyanescens, nice find. I'd like to find some of these, I know of some woodchip beds to go looking in. How many did you find there?

Wow that made my day, thank you for your support, I spent way too much time hunting liberty caps this year and havnt found as many as previous years due to the cricket ground grass being cut too much to keep us away lol.. I was passing my bus stop in berkshire the other day and see these I picked one and was gonna wait for it to turn blue but end up throwing it away , when I passed again today I see them with a blue tint on the caps and stalks so picked a couple handfuls in front of all the people waiting for a bus. I must go get the rest . Is it worth steralizing a bag and grabbing the wood chips maybe I can case them and more flushes will grow?

Very cool, I have to go hunting for these. I suppose you could take some woodchips containing the Mycelium and plant them in other areas of woodchips, then next year they could fruit there too.
Not sure about caps but about 1g dried should be a decent trip, they're pretty potent.

There's little bugs in them so I washed them and drying out on news paper on low radiator heat , and the blue has stained the paper, hopefully I ain't wrecking their potency drying to fast or psilocybe soaking into the paper.

Blue staining means the Psilocin has oxidised (broken down), I don't think you can avoid that apart from perhaps being gentle not to bruise them. Also some loss of Psilocin is inevitable when drying, but they should still be plenty potent enough (contain lots of Psilocybin also which is more stable).
Also I don't think you need to wash them to clear out the bugs, they will naturally flee when the mushroom dries (I get these bugs a lot on liberty caps too, think they are gnat larve).

No, leave the chips. You can use the stem butts to create cardboard spawn and create new woodchip beds outdoors. I don't know what you mean by sterilising a bag but I assume you mean growing indoors. Cyanescens are difficult to fruit indoors so you are better off making more outdoor beds from the stem butts. That way you don't damage the current bed by removing woodchips.

These do resemble Psilocybe cyanescens quite strongly but to be honest your pictures aren't of a quality I'd be comfortable to make a certain id from. Too grainy, bad lighting and not very well focused to reveal important features. Is this a webcam or built into the laptop? Try to get a decent camera with a macro function.
I'd want to say they are cyans but confirmation bias is a bitch.

Does the cardboard stem butt link work for anyone?
And also I'd suggest bringing small scissors or using your fingernails to pick them. Pulling up the myc means it'd going to have to expend energy replacing it instead of more fruit bodies.

If that link isn't working, just search for stem butt on the Mycelium Running Google book preview or try another browser maybe. Granted, it may be that different pages are available for preview depending on where you are.
Here is a another description (Stamet's one in Mycelium Running is better though).

Niiice! Thank you!
What's the best way to transport a stem butt for 8-14 hours? Damp paper towel?

I can see clear bluing on the stems and cap.
Okay, the pictures are a bit grainy but I think they're enough for an ID.

Also try taking pictures during the "golden hour" right after the sun comes up. Typically that's for filming, but works great for phone cameras.

Thank you very much. I spent years looking for these. Then they somehow turn up in a new wood chip flower bed at my local bus station. There's a few groups of similar sized ones without wavy heads reddish coloured caps growing in the same bed next to them, I wonder if they are of any interest. could they be Redlead Roundhead Mushroom, Leratiomyces ceres, (Psilocybe aurantiaca/ Stropharia aurantiaca), Strophariaceae. As they look similar , Will go grab them later and take photos if you think it's worth while?
