My unidentified Pleurotus sp. is not doing very well on the cardboard, I'm thinking of tearing it apart and transferring it to some bucket tekked coir/coffee/verm. Lo and behold, I find this thread where the OP does basically the same with great success. Is tearing it up a good idea? I'm thinking that oyster mycel is pretty resilient and can probably handle it. It stayed alive in my backpack for four or five hours, lol.

It can definitely take being torn apart, I probably do more damage to my mycelium the way I shake my jars like a fucking caveman :lol:

Tenth day after inoculation, here's an update on those four jars of AA+ on BRF:

I inoculated these using two separate syringes, I was stoned and very clumsy during inoculation, bad choice lol should've toked afterwards, but I was jamming on some Parliament-Funkadelic and I couldn't resist. One syringe had visible clumps of spores, while the other was not as visibly saturated though it surely had plenty of spores as well. Jars #1 and #2 are likely from the stronger syringe, Jars #3 and #4 are likely from the weaker syringe.

Jar #1 looks pretty good to me, none of the mycel looks "wet" or contaminated thus far. Is growing at a nice pace, all four inoculation points show decent sized colonies, could see multiple spores germinating below each inoc point:

Jar #2 looks pretty good as well, but one of the colonized inoc points looks wet, with condensation on the jar. All other inoc points look dry, and all four inoc points are colonizing:

Jar #3 is making my spider sense tingle. This is some sort of contaminant, I have little doubt about it. It doesn't look right, this pretty much formed overnight, last night. Ditch it right? I'm thinking so:

Jar #4 is not doing as well as #1 or #2, but does not look contaminated yet. It has a single, tiny visible colony under one inoc point, and possibly one that is just now beginning to become visible (not pictured):

Of course, I haven't gotten really serious about this yet, this grow is still just something I'm playing around with while I'm looking for sustainable employment, lol.

On top of that, I had to put my dog down on Tuesday and I've been feeling pretty distraught about that. I was a wreck on Tuesday and Wednesday, we buried him and then I stayed in bed until Thursday morning pretty much. Felt like I was physically sick, I miss the little bugger. I'm getting along now though, he was diag'd with CHF two years ago and had over a dozen heart attacks since then, but this last one really did him in. He doesn't have to suffer that shit anymore, no more bad heart. :heart:

If it appeared over night I would say jar 3 is something like cob web mold. The other ones ones look good to me, the condensation is normal.
Sorry to hear about your dog, it can be like loosing a family member and friend.

past what point in the colonization process (of BRF jars) is it highly unlikely that contams appear (if they haven't so far)? 50%? 70%? 100%..?

my jars are colonizing suuuuuper slow. It's been like 28 days and they're only at about 35-50%

If it was packed tightly it will take a while. 5 even 6 weeks is not uncommon.

They'll just fruit a little more.

Contam is still possible especially if you move your jars around a lot. So just be patient.

To tell if they are still colonizing trace the growth on the outside with a sharpie, they can stall for a few different reasons. Out of curiosity got some pics?

Especially the marker idea. Let me see the top of those jars, do you have GE?

@Energy,

I haven't done BRF in a while but I think your jars are perfect :super:,

The tall ones tend to stall out before complete colonization but the uncolonized bits can just be brushed off.

@Inoc,

:lmafo:, I always just assume people know the acronyms now hahaha.
