I suck at using smileys tho well not all of them
if you just look at your tub and ask it "why", it usually answers you. it just sits there begging for you to understand it, much like a dog.

2nd flush same tub

Here's the Malabar pinset from the first tubs I did. I can't find the pic at the end of the flush for some reason. This was also 4 or 5 quarts because I had 9 good jars. I was worried I wouldn't get much, but I did.

looks to me like the first 2 pics your surface was drying out around the holes and the sub didnt wanna knot there. everywhere there's a hole you see a lack of pins. same with the 2nd flush. you need high rh/sub surface moisture for knotting, and then pretty high fae afterwards for max fruit growth. So it looks to me you should've stuffed the bottoms much tighter until the pinset was in on the first 2 pics, and then loosened up more (top holes at least) once the pinset was in. pretty sure at the 2nd pic there the discoloration is from sub drying out.
the last pic may be a tad contaminated, most of those fruits looks just like they do for me when something nasty is hiking along in the sub.
not trying to be a downer here (aka "hater" )just giving my input. it's there for the taking I think/hope you know I think you're doing real good, jumpin in heads first giving it your all!
I always welcome advice! Yes, this was my first go at tubs. I had a hell of a time dialing them in. Substrate was terribly uneven too. The holes were way too big too. Very hard to stuff tightly. Not my best work. I was just showing how very few quarts gave me large yield.
I have since made my tubs' holes smaller and started misting when I open my tubs. It has made a difference. I also switched from WBS to oats which cut back on contamination quite a bit for some reason. My last few rubs had no metabolites like these first few. And agar work has definitely changed things up too.

I try to use them for that reason, It's easy for someone to take what you type as being harsh and I don't want to come off as an asshole Not that I thought you were disagreeing, just been having a lot of problems and I don't even trust my advice right now

Holy moley I just finished a day's work! I really need a second PC or larger PC. The one I have holds 10 quart jars at a time and I really would have like to have fit 12. If I had a second PC I could save myself so much time! Maybe I'll sending Christmas present hints to my man.
This batch of oats came out perfect. I soaked for 12 hours, which I hadn't some in the past, then boiled for 30 minutes. They look so damn good. Nice and plump. My second batch of jars are PCing right now. I have enough oats for 10 more jars, but I don't want to be up all night. Could I PC them tomorrow night if I store them in the fridge?
The two two tubs (one with 6 qts of GT and one with 3 qts Malabar) are done. I didn't tape my holes this time and just stuffed with polyfil. Hopefully they do alright. I accidentally used the damn tub with the big 2 inch holes again. I really need to either fix the hole size or throw it away so i stop doing that.

My PE plates should be ready for transfer tomorrow. I want to let them grow out as much as possible before dropping wedges.

Same with Argentina clone plates...

I have some pasty plates that I haven't transfered and they are overgrown. I'm wondering if I should use these for LI or tiger drop. All looks very healthy.

You are killing it, in the short time that I have been here I haven't seen anyone start out like you have. I have to give you props, very impressive. Have you started any edibles yet? I have always wanted to but have never got around to it.

Thanks ND. No. I haven't tried any edibles yet, but I have red reishi coming my way and got some hen of the woods as part of a special. I don't have a whole lot of interest in the hen of the woods, mostly because I know nothing about it and don't think I have even eaten it, but I'm looking forward to the red reishi. I'd also like to try king oyster too
What were you thinking? If you want hen of the woods, I have 2 LC syringes. You can have one. .

I have black reishi and gold enoki I'll neve rhave time to play with
Hen of the Woods I believe is particularily tricky to cultivate indoors, something about the wood I believe? Unless HotW and CotW are different on a species level?

I know next to nothing about them, I plan to read up this winter and do some outdoor edibles in the spring, like some buckets and or laundry baskets of oysters, also lots of woods around with different trees. From what I have read HotW is difficult, I'm afraid I'd just waste your syringe, After I educate myself on them and I get some other edibles going maybe we can do a trade or something. @Taygo those would be cool to see when you find the time, I know how it is, between work the hobby almost feels like a second job sometimes what little bit I got going

I was thinking I might grow it in my outdoor bed this spring but I know nothing about it...... so I will probably waste it too. But I got 2 of them, if anyone is interested!
I agree about this feeling like a second job. I spent 10 hours yesterday cultivating, came home needing to harvest with plans to make my first prints, and just couldn't find the energy. I decided just to take sterile swabs since I don't want to lose the spores in the event my cloned cultures go to shit once thrown in grain. I still haven't eaten dinner.... lol... I was just so excited to post my updated pics!

hens and chickens are completely different. night and day.
Hens, AKA Maitake, AGA Grifola frondosa, are cultivated, but definitely a bit more complicated than most. Also, I believe you have to fruit them at like 50F. From what I have heard it is even more difficult if starting from a wild culture.
Chickens, AKA Sulphur Shelfs, AKA Laetiporus sulphureus or cincinnatus, can be cultivated on logs or stumps or whatever from plug spawn, but as far as I know, there is no reliable way to fruit them indoors how we typically would from sort of bag or casing. I could be wrong, but I have never heard of it.
Both are wonderful foraged species, and I spend a shitload of time looking for them in the woods. When you find them, though, the haul is usually large, so that is a good thing. I had a great season this year, with many finds of both!!

Awesome info ,
I remember reading something about COTW being hard to fruit, what you said sounds similar.

Thank you! I love learning about new species. It would be nice to go foraging some time... I should look to see if there is a meet up group.

Sacred Masters

The work shelf:

Got four tubs colonizing, another on its second flush and six trays on their second as well. Stocking up on jars so I'm finding a new place to put the tubs so I can utilize all of the space
