Yup, same here. If they come out ripped up and weird due to being so compressed, I dry them normally and grind them to powder.

I know I know, I'll be the first to admit that it's totally fucking strange, but they're cool. They just chill in their cage happily, and if I want something rad to hang out with then they come out and cuddle or run around or whatever. They're chill as fuck, never thought I would like them.

Apparently they make cool pets cuz they're smart as fuck. Pet rats are much different than street rats, even than feed rats. I couldn't deal with their gross as fuck tail though.
Gonna stop before everyone pins me as some sort of rodent weirdo...I'm a dog person I swear.

Rats are actually supposedly really intelligent.
I've cracked quite a few subs, it's not the worst you can do.
I saw someone posting pics of a tub that fell down the stairs , shit looked horrendous and fruited fine.

Is there more to crossing varieties than germinating spores together and growing them a bunch to stabilize them?

Not really,
I honestly don't think it takes a lot of SKILL so much as patience. Once you have SAB work and shit like that down then you literally just have to keep swiping plates to find that phenotype you want, take prints, move on and always take back ups.
Honestly anyone could do it with a grasp on cultivation and phenotypes, I forget the guy who did it with the pea pods or something but we all learn it in high school, the Tic Tac Toe board of why you get green eyes instead of brown, blah blah blah.
I'm gonna give it a shot and see if there's more to it but if it's just being patient then I got that for days, it'd be more interesting to work with my own culture then one already in circulation
Pasty is working on RustyWhye, Muda is on EnvySS and I'll be working on getting us some ASS (Albino Super Strain)

I do too man, fucking pricey for strainers, but they makes things so much easier and less mess. Great strainers for WBS too.

My slow little ape jar.. all search shows its a slow fruiter and a normal colonizer but this seems extra long.. also only jar so far that showed growth from 4. Have a few cc's left to see if there's any life left in it.

How long has it been?
They're also slow colonizers, not sure who told you otherwise. obviously it's down to the exact genetics you have but most APE is slower then most cubensis.

I almost bought WBS again. I kind of miss it. Not as simple to prep as oats but way more inoculation points.

You 'noc that jar with spores? I am yet to grow APE, (def next on my list) I have noticed spores to oats and rye grain starts off super slow, I will never put spores to grain again. I tried it once with PE just to see and didn't have much luck either, some jars didn't even germinate and the ones that did took like a month to colonize. But that might just be my experience, Hopefully it picks up some speed soon and works out for you.

I would guess a bit more than a week, I should start the habit of labeling. Theres a bit of myc growing under it as well and some spots I didnt zoom in for. I tried doing the agar nothing showed up for a while so then I did 4 grain jars. Only 1 showed.

I used an APE MS from a trusted vendor. Thing is so far all my other jars with other strains took right off no problem. I actually have 3 qts spawn almost ready of good ol b+. I knew APE/PE were a different animal but sheesh. I tested a few different temperatures didn't really seem to make a difference.
The only thing that did work for me but i knew I shouldn't have done it was shaking it early. I saw a like 3-5 grains colonizing after a long time so i shook it just to have other parts show growth. It was the only thing that helped.
I have PE MS on the way hopefully its different and just bad luck with APE syringe ? Has anyone taken a piece of myc/grain from the jar and just put it to agar?
