What do I Tell The Medicine Man?

My friends going to join ONAC at some point, to take advantage of a loophole in the entheogen laws. You know, because he doesn't want to be put in jail because of a plant. Because of the correspondence he had been having with a member of the church he had to slow down a bit though. he asked him if personal use is protected by the rights on the church, and he said it was a grey area after he asked him twice. He said that it is good to see a medicine man first to get prescribed, to legitimatize it he assumed. He guesses he would be comfortable just being in the grey area, but maybe it will be necessary at some point to get the guys validation in ink, and paper. So any way, he made this thread just because he needed to know what he should ask him, or tell this medicine man? Is there any way to find out who plays ball? Just to make it clear, he finds the use of psychedelics to be spiritual ritual in it's self, which is why he didn't really need em.

I don't know what ONAC means--you might want to clarify that for the sake of getting more replys to your post.
What sort of entheogen do these people use? Do they welcome new members?
Probably the shaman wants to have a look at you to see whether you are seriously interested in spiritual development or just want to use him and his outfit as a cover for jacking around with peyote or mushrooms or aya.
If you join this society, you would probably only be protected when using during ceremonies.

Oklevueha Native American Church, is what ONAC stands for. They claim that the main sacrament is peyote, but it makes it clear that consuming all plant entheogens are protected if it is done with spiritual intent.
They do welcome new members, it basically just sign up, and get the certifications.
But what defines a ceremony, What if sitting still after smoking a bowl, is my ceremony?

If they are telling you that you can use scheduled substances without prosecution if you belong to their church, they are selling something they don't own. If you are an Indian--and can prove it--then you might join the NAC, Native American Church, and can use peyote cerimonially without infringing any drug laws. If you are not an Indian and you belong to some cult that calls itself Indian, you are still subject to state and federal laws.
Sounds to me like a scam of some kind. Maybe not but...are they asking for any money?

Hmmm...yea, I guess I was sort of gullible, I was just too excited I guess. So there is no way to get out of eating a mushroom by claiming that it is religious ceremony?

It's cool but I don't see why it's necessary. Just use San Pedro instead of peyote if you are frightened of the law. As long as you don't do anything stupid, no one is going to bother you. Quote:

I don't think it's a scam, I think they are *trying* to assemble legal documents and court decisions to protect their members and argue religious use if anyone was to be prosecuted. As far as I know however, peyote is the only sacrament that is truly legally protected for native americans.

Yea, I looked into it, it's only peyote, I misinterpreted something I guess, and because San-Pedro is legal, there is no point in joining. Sorry for wasting every bodies time.

Using peyote is pretty unethical. Years of demand far exceeding supply have nearly driven this cactus to extinction. The Native American Church has been a driving force in the eradication of peyote.
